India won 8 medals at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 in Buenos Aires, finishing second behind China. The medal tally included 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes. Golds were won by Sift Kaur Samra (women’s 50m rifle 3 positions), Rudrankksh Patil (men’s 10m air rifle), Suruchi Singh (women’s 10m air pistol), and Vijayveer Sidhu (men’s 25m rapid fire pistol). Silvers went to Esha Singh (women’s 25m pistol) and Arya Borse/Rudrankksh Patil (mixed 10m air rifle). Bronzes were claimed by Saurabh Chaudhary/Suruchi Singh (10m air pistol mixed team) and Chain Singh (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions).

Bihar will host the 7th edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 from 4th to 15th May in cities like Patna, Gaya, Rajgir, Begusarai, and Bhagalpur. The mascot “Gajsimha” represents the strength of an elephant and the courage of a lion, inspired by the Pala dynasty’s heritage seen in Nalanda and Bodhgaya. The KIYG 2025 logo reflects Bihar’s rich culture with vibrant orange colours symbolizing enthusiasm and nature. More than 10,000 delegates will attend and 27 sports disciplines will be featured, including volleyball, football, basketball, boxing, kabaddi, athletics, Sepak Takraw, and indigenous games like Malkhamb

Hockey Punjab, led by Hardik Singh, won the 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship Trophy 2025 by defeating Hockey Madhya Pradesh 4-1 in the final. The final match of Division A was held on 15 April 2025 at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Hockey won the bronze medal by defeating Manipur Hockey 5-1. Hockey Punjab won their 5th title since the tournament began under Hockey India in 2011. The tournament was organised by Hockey India and held from 4 to 15 April 2025.

Indian Chess Grandmaster Koneru Humpy won the Pune FIDE Women’s Grand Prix by scoring 7 out of 9 points. She defeated Bulgarian International Master Nurgyul Salimova in the final round using the White pieces. Chinese Grandmaster Zhu Jiner also scored 7 out of 9 points by defeating Russian International Master Polina Shuvalova with the Black pieces. Due to tiebreak rules, Zhu was placed second while both players shared the Grand Prix points and prize money. Humpy’s win boosts her chances of qualifying for the next Women’s Candidates Chess tournament. Indian International Master Divya Deshmukh drew with Polish player Alina Kashlinskaya and ranked third with 5.5 points.

India shines at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship 2025 by winning 87 medals, including 83 gold, three silver, and one bronze. India topped the medal table, followed by Japan in second place and Mongolia in third place. The 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship 2025 was held at the KD Jadhav Arena, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi, from April 25 to 27, 2025. The first Asian Yogasana Sport Championship was held in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2022. The event was organised by Yogasan Bharat with support from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India.

China won the Sudirman Cup 2025, claiming their 14th title and showing their strength in international badminton. The Sudirman Cup is the World Mixed Team Badminton Championship, organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). China has now won 14 out of 18 editions, proving their long-standing dominance in the sport. The tournament was first held in 1989 and China has reached the finals 16 times in a row. South Korea, the second most successful team, has won only 4 titles. An Seyoung won her match in the final, but South Korea still lost to China in the overall tie.

Recently, Maharashtra emerged as the overall champion at the seventh Khelo India Youth Games 2025 with 158 medals, including 58 gold and 47 silver. Haryana came second with 117 medals, winning 39 gold and 27 silver. Rajasthan secured third place with 60 medals, including 24 gold and 12 silver. On the final day, Uttar Pradesh won the boys’ basketball gold, while Karnataka won the girls’ basketball final against Haryana. Haryana showed dominance in fencing, winning 7 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. New records were set in weightlifting, and in track events by Kadir Khan and Aditya Pisale. Host state Bihar made remarkable progress, winning 36 medals, especially in athletics.

Recently, L.R. Srihari from Tamil Nadu became India’s 86th Grandmaster (GM) in chess. He crossed the required 2500 Elo rating in May 2023 at the Dubai Open. He earned his first Grandmaster norm at the Sixdays Budapest Grandmaster Round-Robin in August 2023, and the second at the 2023 Qatar Masters. After nearly a year and nine tournaments, he finally achieved his third and final Grandmaster norm at the ongoing Asian Individual Championships in Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi.

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa won the Superbet Chess Classic held in Bucharest, Romania. He secured the title after a close tiebreak round against Alireza Firouzja and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. All three players had 5.5 points in nine rounds, which led to a three-way playoff. The first two tiebreak games ended in draws—first between Praggnanandhaa and Firouzja, then between Vachier-Lagrave and Firouzja. Praggnanandhaa won the third and final game against Vachier-Lagrave to claim the title. World Champion D Gukesh finished ninth with 4 points, drawing his last match with Fabiano Caruana.
