The BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Junior Championships 2025 have begun in Guwahati, Assam, marking their return to India after 17 years. Judo player Linthoi Chanambam made history by winning India’s first-ever medal at the Judo Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru in 2025. She is 19 years old and competed in the women’s 63 kilogram category. Chanambam won the bronze medal by defeating Joni Geilen from the Netherlands. Earlier, she lost her final Group D match to So Morichika of Japan. This achievement marks a historic moment for Indian Judo on the world stage.

The fifth edition of Khelo India University Games (KIUG 2025) will be held from November 24 to December 5, 2025 in seven cities of Rajasthan: Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, and Bharatpur. More than 5,000 athletes are expected to participate in 23 medal sports and one demonstration sport (Kho-Kho). New sports introduced this year include beach volleyball, canoeing & kayaking, and cycling. KIUG provides university athletes a platform for talent development and national recognition, supporting India’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. KIUG is part of the Khelo India Scheme, the flagship programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS).

India won the silver medal in Hockey at the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 in Malaysia. India lost narrowly to Australia 2-1 in the final Australia’s Ian Grobbelaar scored first in the 13th minute. India’s Anmol Ekka equalized at the 17th minute, making it 1-1 at half-time. Ian Grobbelaar scored again in the 59th minute, securing Australia’s win. This is India’s fifth runners-up finish at the Sultan of Johor Cup. India had won bronze medals in the previous two editions. Australia ended their three consecutive final losses streak, avenging their 2022 defeat to India.

The 4th South Asian (SAAF) Athletics Championship 2025 will be held from 24th to 26th October at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The official jersey of the championship was unveiled in Ranchi ahead of the event. The focus is on showcasing Jharkhand’s hospitality and organisational excellence at an international level. Athletes from South Asian nations have already begun arriving in Ranchi for the championship.

On 22 October 2025, Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. The ceremony was held in New Delhi, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised Neeraj as a symbol of perseverance, patriotism, and excellence, inspiring sports and Armed Forces communities. Neeraj Chopra joined the Indian Army in 2016 as a Naib Subedar and later became Subedar Major. He won the historic Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020 in javelin throw.

Preetismita Bhoi, a young lifter from Dhenkanal, Odisha, won gold in the 44 kg category at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain. She lifted a total of 158 kg, setting Asian and World records in clean and jerk with 92 kg. The 16-year-old, who turns 17 in November, trains at the Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Earlier, she became the first Indian female lifter to win gold in the 40 kg category at the World Youth Championships 2024 in Peru, also setting a world record.

Recently, India emerged as the overall champion at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025 held at Birsa Munda Stadium, Ranchi. The event took place from October 24 to 26, 2025, with participation from all South Asian nations. India topped the medal tally with 20 gold and 58 total medals, followed by Sri Lanka with 16 gold and 40 total medals. Nepal stood third, while Bangladesh and Maldives followed; Bhutan finished without a medal.

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) inaugurated the 9th T20 National Cricket Championship for the Deaf on November 3, 2025, in New Delhi. The championship is held from November 3 to 9, featuring 20 teams from across India. The opening ceremony was attended by Delhi minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma and other dignitaries. The week-long event is organised under the patronage of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group. It aims to promote inclusivity in sports and showcase the talent of India’s hearing-impaired cricketers on a national platform.

In November 2025, world champion para-archer Sheetal Devi became the first Indian athlete selected to represent the country in an able-bodied international competition. She will compete in the compound archery event at the Asia Cup 2025 Stage 3, scheduled in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from December 9–16, 2025. Sheetal, born with phocomelia, a condition that left her without arms, shoots from a seated position. She earned her place in the 16-member Indian archery squad after finishing third overall in national trials at the SAI Centre, Sonepat.
