India topped the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) Junior World Cup 2025 medals table with 8 gold, 10 silver, and 8 bronze. The ISSF Junior World Cup was held in New Delhi from 24 September to 2 October 2025. Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) was second with 5 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. Italy was third with 2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze. Other medal-winning countries included Czechia, Croatia, Spain, Finland, Cyprus, and Iran. The event highlighted India’s strong performance in shooting at junior level.

Judo player Linthoi Chanambam made history by winning India’s first-ever medal at the Judo Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru in 2025. She is 19 years old and competed in the women’s 63 kilogram category. Chanambam won the bronze medal by defeating Joni Geilen from the Netherlands. Earlier, she lost her final Group D match to So Morichika of Japan. This achievement marks a historic moment for Indian Judo on the world stage.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant won the 125th Indian Football Association (IFA) Shield by defeating East Bengal FC 5–4 on penalties. The final competition was held in Kolkata Derby at Salt Lake Stadium on October 18, 2025. The Indian Football Association (IFA) was founded in Calcutta in 1893, and the IFA Shield tournament began that same year. The tournament is widely regarded as the fourth-oldest club football competition after the FA Cup (England), Scottish Cup, and Durand Cup. The 2025 edition marked the tournament’s return after a three-year gap, last won by Real Kashmir FC in 2021.

India won the silver medal in Hockey at the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 in Malaysia. India lost narrowly to Australia 2-1 in the final Australia’s Ian Grobbelaar scored first in the 13th minute. India’s Anmol Ekka equalized at the 17th minute, making it 1-1 at half-time. Ian Grobbelaar scored again in the 59th minute, securing Australia’s win. This is India’s fifth runners-up finish at the Sultan of Johor Cup. India had won bronze medals in the previous two editions. Australia ended their three consecutive final losses streak, avenging their 2022 defeat to India.

The 4th South Asian (SAAF) Athletics Championship 2025 will be held from 24th to 26th October at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The official jersey of the championship was unveiled in Ranchi ahead of the event. The focus is on showcasing Jharkhand’s hospitality and organisational excellence at an international level. Athletes from South Asian nations have already begun arriving in Ranchi for the championship.

Preetismita Bhoi, a young lifter from Dhenkanal, Odisha, won gold in the 44 kg category at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain. She lifted a total of 158 kg, setting Asian and World records in clean and jerk with 92 kg. The 16-year-old, who turns 17 in November, trains at the Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Earlier, she became the first Indian female lifter to win gold in the 40 kg category at the World Youth Championships 2024 in Peru, also setting a world record.

Recently, India emerged as the overall champion at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025 held at Birsa Munda Stadium, Ranchi. The event took place from October 24 to 26, 2025, with participation from all South Asian nations. India topped the medal tally with 20 gold and 58 total medals, followed by Sri Lanka with 16 gold and 40 total medals. Nepal stood third, while Bangladesh and Maldives followed; Bhutan finished without a medal.

Recently, 16-year-old Ilamparthi AR from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, became India’s 90th Chess Grandmaster (GM). He is also the 35th Grandmaster from Tamil Nadu, a state known for producing chess legends like Viswanathan Anand, R Praggnanandhaa, and D Gukesh. Ilamparthi achieved his final Grandmaster norm at the Bijeljina Open 2025 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is a beneficiary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu’s (SDAT) Champions Development Scheme.

Samrat Rana won the men’s 10m air pistol gold at the ISSF World Championship 2025 in Cairo, becoming the first Indian to win an individual air pistol world title.
