A 500 MW floating solar plant is being planned at Kariba Dam by Green Hybrid Power in partnership with Intensive Energy User Group. The dam is located on the Zambezi River at the Kariba Gorge, forming the boundary between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is a double-curvature concrete arch dam, completed in 1959, and stands about 128 metres high. The dam plays a crucial role in power generation, supplying electricity to both Zambia and Zimbabwe. Its construction led to the creation of Lake Kariba, the world’s largest human-made lake by volume.

The Pride of Hills scheme is a special financial initiative introduced by the Central Government of India in March 2026 for the financial year 2026-27, specifically designed to support 9 Himalayan states. The initiative, operating under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) framework, aims to bridge developmental gaps caused by difficult terrain, low connectivity, and low population density. 9 Himalayan states are Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Mizoram.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has recently introduced Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) for the insurance sector to modernise financial reporting practices. Ind AS were originally notified in 2015 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and are largely converged with the International Financial Reporting Standards, thereby aligning India’s accounting system with global norms. These standards follow a principle-based approach, focusing on fair value measurement, improved transparency, and enhanced financial disclosures, which helps in better decision-making and comparability.

The Purvanchal Mahotsav ‘Maati-9’ is a major cultural festival of the Purvanchal region, centred on the theme of “Maati” (soil), symbolising the deep connection between people and their roots. It showcases the region’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage through art, cuisine, tourism, and traditional practices. The festival is organised with participation from cultural groups, artisans, and local communities, reflecting the diversity of Purvanchal. Its key objectives are to preserve and promote regional heritage and to strengthen the connection of youth with their traditions and identity.

The government is expanding public Wi-Fi through the PM-WANI scheme. The Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface scheme aims to boost broadband access via public Wi-Fi networks across India. As of February 2026, 4,09,403 Public Data Offices (PDOs), 207 Public Data Office Aggregators (PDOAs), and 113 App Providers are operational. States like Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh lead in hotspot deployment. Around 2.44 crore users accessed PM-WANI, consuming about 58.64 petabytes of data. The scheme follows a decentralised, market-driven model encouraging local entrepreneurs to set up Wi-Fi hotspots.

Government approved RELIEF (Resilience & Logistics Intervention for Export Facilitation) under Export Promotion Mission with ₹497 crore outlay to support exporters amid West Asia disruptions. RELIEF provides enhanced risk coverage through Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, offering up to 100% cover for existing shipments (Feb 14–Mar 15, 2026). For upcoming consignments (Mar 16–Jun 15, 2026), exporters get government-supported coverage up to 95% risk. MSME exporters without ECGC cover receive up to 50% reimbursement of freight and insurance costs (max ₹50 lakh). The scheme is part of the Export Promotion Mission (2025–31) to boost export competitiveness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Karmayogi Sadhana Saptah on the foundation day of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC). The Capacity Building Commission (CBC) was established in 2021 as the executive body and custodian of Mission Karmayogi. It functions as an autonomous body under the Prime Minister’s Public Human Resources Council (PMHRC). The objective is to transform civil services from a rules-based system to a roles-based administration, improving efficiency and accountability.

Singapore Changi Airport ranked 1st in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2026, marking its 14th win since 2000. It is a major international hub in Southeast Asia, known for world-class passenger experience and advanced infrastructure. The airport features attractions like Jewel Changi Airport, home to the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. It consistently scores high in services such as dining, entertainment, and connectivity. The recognition highlights Singapore’s leadership in global aviation excellence and airport management.

Blanka Vlašić has been appointed International Event Ambassador for the World 10K Bengaluru 2026, scheduled on April 26. The event is a World Athletics Gold Label Race, attracting elite runners and mass participation. Blanka Vlašić is a double Olympic medallist (silver at Beijing 2008 Olympics and bronze at Rio 2016 Olympics) and a two-time World Champion in high jump. She holds a personal best of 2.08 m (2009), which is the Croatian national record and among the highest jumps in women’s history.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a special campaign to create a Farmer Registry to ensure transparent delivery of benefits under agricultural schemes. The drive is being conducted through camps at Gram Sachivalayas across the state and will continue till mid-April. It aims to build an accurate digital database of farmers, helping in efficient implementation of schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. So far, over 1.72 crore farmers have been linked, but efforts are underway to include those still left out.
