Karnataka has recorded the highest number of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) trained as drone pilots under the Namo Drone Didi Yojana (NDDY). The scheme is a Central Sector initiative aimed at empowering women-led SHGs under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission by providing drone technology for agricultural services. It aims to enable SHGs to provide drone rental services to farmers, mainly for spraying liquid fertilizers and pesticides. Around 15,000 drones will be distributed to selected women SHGs during 2024–25 to 2025–26.

A 16-year-old girl from the Juang tribe in Odisha brought significant social change by transforming village attitudes toward child health and child marriage. The Juang tribe is one of the 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) among the 62 tribes found in Odisha and is mainly concentrated in Keonjhar and Dhenkanal districts. They speak the Juang language, which belongs to the Munda branch of the Austroasiatic language family, and follow a structured clan and kinship system. Traditionally dependent on hunting, gathering, and limited cultivation, they later adapted to basket-weaving and barter trade after forest restrictions during the colonial period.

The Universal Parsi Registration Drive facilitation camp, organised by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, led to around 300 new registrations on the Jiyo Parsi Scheme portal. The Jiyo Parsi Scheme is a Central Sector Scheme launched in 2013–14 to address the declining population of the Parsi community in India. The scheme aims to stabilize and increase the Parsi population through scientific, medical, and social interventions. The Ministry of Minority Affairs serves as the nodal ministry for the scheme.

Prevention of Blindness Week is observed in India from April 1st to April 7th, 2026, to raise awareness about preventing avoidable vision loss. It was organized by the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness-India (NSPB-I). The week aims to educate the public on eye health, encouraging regular eye check-ups to prevent, treat, or manage blindness. The campaign focuses on reducing blindness caused by cataracts, glaucoma, uncorrected refractive errors, and diabetes.

Indian Navy’s offshore patrol vessel INS Sunayna arrived at Malé, Maldives, under the Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR initiative, strengthening India–Maldives maritime ties. The ship was welcomed by Maldives National Defence Force, with two MNDF personnel onboard as part of the multinational crew. This initiative aligns with “Neighbourhood First” policy and Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR) vision. It highlights India’s commitment to regional security, interoperability, and maritime cooperation.

On World Health Day 2026, the Council on Energy Environment and Water advanced a South Asia Hub of the Global Heat Health Information Network. Global Heat Health Information Network is an independent, member-driven platform of scientists, practitioners, and policymakers focused on protecting populations from health risks caused by extreme heat in a changing climate. It was launched in 2016 and is led by the World Health Organization, World Meteorological Organization, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It aims to strengthen the capacity of governments, organisations, and professionals to safeguard people from preventable health impacts of extreme ambient heat.

The Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry has achieved cumulative investment of over ₹9,000 crore, exceeding the committed ₹7,000 crore, indicating strong industry response. It was launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries to boost India’s food processing sector. The scheme aims to promote Indian food brands globally and create large-scale food manufacturing champions. It focuses on increasing value addition, expanding processing capacity, and generating employment, especially in rural and off-farm sectors. The scheme is being implemented for six years from FY 2021–22 to FY 2026–27.

India has limited the requirement of certification from the Export Inspection Council (EIC) for rice exports only to select countries—European Union (EU), United Kingdom (UK), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. The Export Inspection Council was established under the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963. It ensures quality and safety of Indian export products to meet importing country standards. It functions as India’s official export certification authority. The Council operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which is its nodal ministry.

The Lanjia Saora Tribe is witnessing cultural reinterpretation as younger members balance tradition with modern influences. They are an ancient tribe of Odisha, classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). They exhibit Proto-Australoid physical characteristics. They live in scattered mud-and-thatch houses in hilly terrains. They are known for their distinct art, including wall paintings (Idital), and rich musical traditions using instruments like gongs and cymbals.

Telangana has been declared Naxal-free after the surrender of 42 cadres of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The announcement was made by Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy, stating that the Telangana State Committee has been dismantled. Among those who surrendered was PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army) commander Sodi Malla. Surrendered cadres handed over 36 firearms, including AK-47 rifles, Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), grenades, and large quantities of ammunition. Additional recoveries include 1,007 live rounds of ammunition and 800 grams of gold.
