Through this integration, e-Shram beneficiaries can directly access training courses and upskilling programmes available on SIDH. A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck Indonesia’s Northern Molucca Sea, causing damage, one death, tsunami waves, and multiple aftershocks. Molucca Sea is located in the western Pacific Ocean within the Indonesian archipelago. It is bounded by Sulawesi to the west, Halmahera to the east, the Sula Islands to the south, and connects northward to the Philippine Sea. The sea lies over the Molucca Sea Plate, which experiences Divergent Double Subduction — subducting westwards under the Eurasian (Sangihe) Plate and eastwards under the Philippine Sea (Halmahera) Plate. It is a highly active seismic region with frequent earthquakes and crustal movements.

Newcastle Disease is a highly contagious viral disease affecting poultry and wild birds, recently reported spreading across Europe and the United Kingdom (UK). It is caused by Avian Paramyxovirus Serotype 1 (APMV-1) and has global distribution. It occurs in three forms: lentogenic (mild), mesogenic (moderate), and velogenic (highly virulent). Transmission occurs via respiratory droplets, exhaled air, and feces of infected birds. Symptoms include respiratory distress (gasping, coughing), nervous signs (paralysis, twisted neck), and diarrhoea.

Min Aung Hlaing was elected President of Myanmar, consolidating his political power five years after the Myanmar coup 2021. His rise follows a controversial election dominated by the Union Solidarity and Development Party, widely criticised as a sham by Western nations. He overthrew the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021, triggering protests that escalated into a nationwide civil war. He secured victory with 429 votes against rival Nyo Saw, backed by military-appointed lawmakers. His presidency is seen as an attempt to legitimise military rule under a civilian façade.

Karnataka has recorded the highest number of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) trained as drone pilots under the Namo Drone Didi Yojana (NDDY). The scheme is a Central Sector initiative aimed at empowering women-led SHGs under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission by providing drone technology for agricultural services. It aims to enable SHGs to provide drone rental services to farmers, mainly for spraying liquid fertilizers and pesticides. Around 15,000 drones will be distributed to selected women SHGs during 2024–25 to 2025–26.

The 47th Raising Day of Project Chetak was celebrated in Bikaner, Rajasthan by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Project Chetak was established in 1980 in the strategically important western sector of India. It plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining infrastructure across Rajasthan, Punjab, and northern Gujarat. The project has significantly contributed to border connectivity, national security, and regional development. It is one of the largest BRO projects in terms of geographical coverage.

World Health Day is observed every year on 7 April. The theme for 2026 is “Together for health. Stand with science.” The campaign emphasizes the importance of science-based solutions and global collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the environment. It promotes the One Health approach, highlighting the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. The observance launches a year-long global campaign focusing on scientific achievements and the role of multilateral cooperation in turning evidence into action.

Researchers have discovered three new species of rove beetles in Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the region’s rich and largely unexplored biodiversity. The species—Megalopsilus arunachalensis, Megalopsilus mithun, and Megalopsilus microglossus—belong to the genus Megalopsilus and were reported in the journal Soil Organisms. The discovery was made through a collaboration between Rajiv Gandhi University and the University of Tübingen. These beetles were found in forest ecosystems such as decaying wood and moist leaf litter, which are crucial for maintaining ecological balance.

Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered two new species of free-living marine nematodes off the coast of Tamil Nadu named Corononema dhriti and Epacanthion indica. Corononema dhriti is the fourth known species of its genus, previously recorded only in Australia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Epacanthion indica is a microscopic predator with specialized mandibles and teeth, feeding within the benthic food web. Marine nematodes play a key role in nutrient cycling, sediment health, and act as bio-indicators for environmental and climate change.

The National Highways Authority of India has launched the ‘Arogya Van’ initiative to promote biodiversity and ecological sustainability along National Highways. It involves thematic plantations of medicinal trees on vacant land parcels to support pollinators, birds, and microfauna, thereby enhancing ecosystem resilience. In the first phase, 17 land parcels covering 62.8 hectares have been identified, with around 67,462 medicinal trees to be planted across multiple states including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. About 36 medicinal species such as Neem, Amla, Imli, Jamun, Lemon, Gular, and Maulsari will be planted based on agro-climatic suitability.
