Notes:
Agray, an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft, has been delivered to the Indian Navy. It is the fourth of eight ASW Shallow Water Crafts, aimed at strengthening coastal defence capabilities. The vessel is indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers. It is a reincarnation of the earlier INS Agray, a patrol vessel decommissioned in 2017. The ship has been constructed as per standards of the Indian Register of Shipping. It uses waterjet propulsion, making it among the largest Indian naval warships to use this technology. It is equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers, and advanced shallow water SONAR systems for effective submarine detection.

The INSPIRE Scheme (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research), implemented by the Department of Science and Technology, aims to attract meritorious youth to pursue basic and natural sciences and strengthen India’s Research & Development base. The scheme has supported large numbers of students in recent years, with INSPIRE-MANAK beneficiaries around 50,000 annually, while INSPIRE-SHE supports nearly 9,000–10,000 students per year.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is the nodal authority for implementing the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, which ensures safety, dignity, and well-being of children, while States/UTs are primarily responsible for its execution. The Act establishes institutional mechanisms at State and district levels, including State Child Protection Societies, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs), District Child Protection Units, and Child Care Institutions (CCIs). Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) are empowered to take decisions for children in need of care and protection and to monitor Child Care Institutions, ensuring actions are in the child’s best interest.

Indian Space Research Organisation conducts the YUva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA) to promote scientific temper among school students. The YUVIKA (YUva VIgyani KAryakram) programme is an initiative of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The programme provides foundational knowledge in space technology, space science, and space applications, with special focus on students from rural areas. Its objective is to create awareness about emerging trends in science and encourage students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a Kaynes semiconductor plant at Sanand, Gujarat. The plant is set up by Kaynes Technology as an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility. It is established under the India Semiconductor Mission. The facility manufactures Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) used in electric vehicles, automotive, and industrial automation. It marks India’s entry into the global semiconductor value chain and boosts high-tech manufacturing.

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck Indonesia’s Northern Molucca Sea, causing damage, one death, tsunami waves, and multiple aftershocks. Molucca Sea is located in the western Pacific Ocean within the Indonesian archipelago. It is bounded by Sulawesi to the west, Halmahera to the east, the Sula Islands to the south, and connects northward to the Philippine Sea. The sea lies over the Molucca Sea Plate, which experiences Divergent Double Subduction — subducting westwards under the Eurasian (Sangihe) Plate and eastwards under the Philippine Sea (Halmahera) Plate. It is a highly active seismic region with frequent earthquakes and crustal movements.

The ‘School Chalen Hum’ campaign was launched in Bhopal by Mohan Yadav to boost universal school enrolment and quality education. It was conducted from April 1–4, it targets all children across 55 districts and more than 50,000 villages. It aligns with Pravesh Utsav (admission festival) and focuses on distribution of 5.6 crore textbooks and learning materials.
The initiative supports goals of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). Enrolment increased by 19.6%, with 32.4% rise in government schools. Sandipani Vidyalayas and PM-SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) schools promote quality infrastructure.

Police rescued 16 Indian Softshell turtles from illegal wildlife trade in Jharcha, Greater Noida, highlighting ongoing trafficking concerns. The Indian softshell turtle is a freshwater turtle species native to South Asia. They are found in rivers, canals, ponds, and freshwater systems. They are distributed across major river basins like Indus, Ganga, and Mahanadi. They occurs in multiple Indian states (e.g., Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal) and also in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan.

Karnataka has recorded the highest number of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) trained as drone pilots under the Namo Drone Didi Yojana (NDDY). The scheme is a Central Sector initiative aimed at empowering women-led SHGs under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission by providing drone technology for agricultural services. It aims to enable SHGs to provide drone rental services to farmers, mainly for spraying liquid fertilizers and pesticides. Around 15,000 drones will be distributed to selected women SHGs during 2024–25 to 2025–26.

The Union Government unveiled a roadmap to reduce dependence on imported petroleum, ammonia, and fertilizers, highlighting the Coal Gasification Incentive Scheme. The scheme was approved in 2024 to promote coal and lignite gasification projects in both public and private sectors. It aims to achieve 100 million tonnes of coal gasification by 2030, utilizing India’s abundant coal reserves for sustainable industrial development. The scheme encourages participation of PSUs and private players to set up gasification projects across the country. It forms a key part of India’s clean coal transition strategy.
