Rajnath Singh laid the foundation of the Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT) at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam. NSTL is a premier lab under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT) is a strategic facility for advanced hydrodynamic research and testing of naval systems. It will enable indigenous design, development, and testing of ships, submarines, and propulsion systems. It supports stealth, noise reduction, and next-generation underwater technologies. The facility allows both closed-loop (submarine) and free-surface (surface ship) simulations.

INS Taragiri was commissioned into the Indian Navy on April 3, 2026, at Visakhapatnam by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. It is the fourth ship of the Project 17A class, designed by the Warship Design Bureau. It was built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, it has over 75% indigenous content with MSME support. The frigate features advanced stealth technology with reduced radar cross-section. It supports multi-role operations: combat, surveillance, anti-piracy, and humanitarian missions.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Qdenga for individuals aged 4–60 years, making it India’s first dengue vaccine. Qdenga is a live-attenuated, tetravalent vaccine developed by Takeda Pharmaceutical, Japan. It targets all four dengue virus serotypes (DENV-1 to DENV-4), with strongest efficacy against DENV-2 and relatively lower against DENV-3 and DENV-4. It does not require pre-vaccination screening and is administered in two doses, spaced three months apart. The vaccine provides strong protection against severe dengue and reduces hospitalisation rates.

The Supreme Court of India stayed a Rajasthan government notification that had altered the boundaries of the National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary, which had freed 732 hectares along the Chambal River. The Chambal River is a perennial river originating from Janapav Hills, south of Mhow town near Indore, along the southern slopes of the Vindhya Range in Madhya Pradesh. It flows in a north-northeasterly direction through Madhya Pradesh, passes through Rajasthan briefly, forms part of the boundary between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and then turns southeast to join the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh.

Sādhana Saptah 2026 is an initiative aimed at building a future-ready civil services system in India. It is conducted under Mission Karmayogi, also known as the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building. The term SĀDHANA stands for Strengthening Adaptive Development and Humane Aptitude for National Advancement, focusing on citizen-centric governance skills. The initiative is organised by the Department of Personnel and Training, Capacity Building Commission, and Karmayogi Bharat. It brings together Central Ministries, States, Union Territories, and training institutions on a common platform to promote responsive governance.

National Maritime Day is observed annually on April 5 to recognise India’s maritime heritage and the role of the shipping sector in global trade and economic growth. The date commemorates the historic 1919 maiden voyage of SS Loyalty from Mumbai to London, marking India’s entry into international shipping during colonial rule. The ship was operated by the Scindia Steam Navigation Company, one of India’s earliest shipping enterprises. The day highlights the importance of the maritime sector, with over 90% of India’s trade by volume carried through sea routes.

The 7th National Sub-Junior (Under-17) Boxing Championship has started in Nagpur from 4 April. The event was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari. The week-long tournament has attracted around 600 young boxers from across India, reflecting its growing importance in the national sports calendar. It also serves as a selection platform, where top performers will be chosen for the Indian Under-17 squad. Selected players will represent India at the Asian Boxing Championship to be held in Tashkent later this year.

The Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare has been conducting Digital Life Certificate (DLC) Campaigns since November 2022 to promote digital submission of life certificates and improve ease of living for pensioners. DLC Campaign 4.0 (Nov 1–30, 2025) was launched in New Delhi and became the largest-ever pensioners’ welfare campaign in India. The campaign followed a saturation approach, organizing 75,000 camps across 2,000 cities/districts, supported by 1,400 nodal officers and 1.8 lakh postmen/Dak Sevaks for doorstep services.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a special campaign to create a Farmer Registry to ensure transparent delivery of benefits under agricultural schemes. The drive is being conducted through camps at Gram Sachivalayas across the state and will continue till mid-April. It aims to build an accurate digital database of farmers, helping in efficient implementation of schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. So far, over 1.72 crore farmers have been linked, but efforts are underway to include those still left out.

Government launched the India’s first dedicated programme on “Administrative Capacity Building for Scientists and Academicians” under Mission Karmayogi in April 2026. The launch took place during the SADHANA (Strengthening Adaptive Development and Humane Aptitude for National Advancement) Saptah at Vigyan Bhawan. The programme aims to equip scientists and academic leaders with governance, administrative, and decision-making skills.
