The Gauhati High Court directed the Assam government to respond to a petition regarding tree felling in the sanctuary without central forest clearance. Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the eastern fringe of Guwahati city, Assam. It was formed by merging South Amchang Reserve Forest, Amchang Reserve Forest, and Khanapara Reserve Forest. The sanctuary extends from the Brahmaputra River in the north to the forested hills of Meghalaya in the south.

The Para Elan initiative is a three-year India–France collaboration launched by the French Institute in India and the Paralympic Committee of India to promote inclusive education and para sports. The programme aims to reach around 10,000 students through awareness campaigns, workshops, and interactions with para-athletes. World Creativity and Innovation Day is observed annually on April 21 to highlight the role of creativity and innovation in addressing global challenges. Recognized by the United Nations, it emphasizes that creativity is crucial for sustainable development, economic growth, and social progress beyond just art. The 2026 theme, “Harnessing Creativity for Global Progress,” promotes innovative thinking in technology, entrepreneurship, and social development. The concept originated in 2002 and was formally adopted by the UN in 2017, with global observance starting in 2018. The day aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, encouraging inclusive, resilient, and innovation-driven societies.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMA). A Truck Mounted Attenuator is a crash-absorbing safety device fitted on trucks in work zones. It absorbs and dissipates kinetic energy during collisions, reducing impact force. TMAs protect road construction and maintenance workers ahead of the vehicle. They also reduce injury risk for occupants of the colliding vehicle. These devices minimize accident severity on highways, especially in work zones.

INS Nireekshak reached Colombo to participate in IN–SLN DIVEX 2026 (India–Sri Lanka Navy Diving Exercise). It is a Diving Support and Submarine Rescue Vessel of the Indian Navy. The exercise (21–27 April 2026) focuses on diving operations, training, and interoperability. It strengthens maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. The exercise aligns with MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision in the Indian Ocean Region.

Recently, the Government of India expanded the eligibility of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) to include final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) aims to provide internship opportunities to youth in top 500 companies across 24 sectors like banking, energy, and hospitality. It targets youth aged 21–25 years from low-income households, ensuring wider inclusion. Interns receive a minimum financial assistance of ₹9,000 per month for a duration of 12 months. Eligible candidates include those who have completed Class 10, 12, Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Polytechnic, or diploma courses, along with non-premier graduates.

Recently, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a three-day Chintan Shivir (April 24–26, 2026) in Chandigarh on the theme “Antyodaya ka Sankalp, Amrit Kaal ka Pratibimb – Viksit Bharat @2047”. The objective is to strengthen social justice schemes, improve last-mile delivery, and create a roadmap for inclusive empowerment of marginalised communities. The Shivir focuses on best practices, gap analysis, and actionable recommendations (short-, medium-, long-term). It aims to enhance coordination, digital governance, and community participation in achieving Viksit Bharat @2047.

Meghalaya launched the CM-INSPIRE scheme to support Union Public Service Commission aspirants. The scheme aims to reduce financial barriers and improve Meghalaya’s representation in civil services. It provides ₹50,000 for clearing the Preliminary exam and ₹1 lakh for clearing Mains and reaching the Interview stage. The initiative helps cover expenses like coaching, study materials, accommodation, and travel. It focuses on ensuring equal opportunity for deserving candidates regardless of economic background.

Recently, Project DANTAK of the Border Roads Organisation celebrated its 66th Raising Day (April 24, 2026) in Thimphu. It has played a key role in strengthening India–Bhutan relations and infrastructure development. It has constructed over 1,500 km of roads, including the East–West Highway (Trashigang to Thimphu). Recent works focus on road widening, modernisation, and connectivity improvement, including Samdrup Jongkhar–Trashigang highway. The project also ensures rapid restoration of roads during natural disasters.

Recently, India launched indigenously developed Silicon Photonics solutions at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, marking progress in technological self-reliance. The launch was led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Two key innovations were introduced: Silicon Photonics Process Design Kit (PDK) and Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuit (PPIC) Test Engine. These were developed at the Centre of Excellence for Compound Photonics and Photonic Integrated Circuits Systems (CoE-CPPICS). The initiative supports research, industry, startups, and defence sectors as a shared national facility.
