The Chhattisgarh government plans to launch a jungle safari in Bhoramdeo Wildlife Sanctuary to promote eco-tourism. The sanctuary is located in Kabirdham district, Chhattisgarh, and lies in the Maikal range of the Satpura hills, known for rich biodiversity. It forms part of the Kanha–Achanakmar Corridor, linking Kanha National Park and Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, aiding wildlife movement.

International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day is observed annually on April 26 to honor victims and raise awareness of the 1986 nuclear disaster. The disaster occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (then Soviet Union), caused by a reactor explosion during a safety. It is regarded as the world’s worst nuclear disaster.

INS Kalpeni is a fast attack craft of the Indian Navy and recently visited Gan, strengthening India–Maldives maritime cooperation. It belongs to the Car Nicobar class Waterjet Fast Attack Craft built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers. It was commissioned on 14 October 2010. The ship is named after Kalpeni Island of Lakshadweep. It is based at Kochi under the Southern Naval Command. Its roles include coastal surveillance, anti-smuggling, boarding operations, and search and rescue.

Notes:
Ladakh has approved the creation of five new districts, increasing the total from 2 to 7. The new districts are Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass. Earlier, Ladakh had only Leh and Kargil as its districts. The move was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs under Amit Shah in August 2024. The objective is to strengthen grassroots governance, decentralise administration, and improve service delivery. It will enhance opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and regional development. Ladakh became a Union Territory in 2019 after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Delhi High Court asked the Union government whether X Corp. must join the Sahyog Portal for cases involving trafficking and national security. The Sahyog Portal is an online platform launched in 2024 to enable quick removal of illegal content from the internet. It allows government agencies to send direct takedown notices to social media platforms and intermediaries. The portal is managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It provides centralised communication between agencies, nodal officers, and intermediaries.

The Science Panel for the Global Energy Transition (SPGET) was launched on April 24, 2026 in Santa Marta, Colombia. It is a global science-based advisory panel aimed at accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels. The initiative emerged from discussions at COP30. Its mission is to provide fast, science-based and policy-relevant guidance to governments. It focuses on achieving climate targets aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Notes:
The First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels hosted by Colombia and Netherlands in Santa Marta. It was announced in 2025 during COP30 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The conference serves as a political platform to promote implementation-driven action for phasing out fossil fuels. It aims to support an orderly global energy transition toward clean energy.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj released the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0 Report (FY 2023–24) on National Panchayati Raj Day. PAI 2.0 acts as a performance report card for Gram Panchayats, evaluating grassroots governance. Around 3,635 Gram Panchayats were classified as Front Runners, while 1,18,824 (≈45.7%) were Performers. Participation reached 97.3%, covering over 2.59 lakh Gram Panchayats across 33 States/UTs. The index uses 150 indicators and 230 data points aligned with Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs).

Finland has launched Europe’s first fully integrated lithium project near Kokkola. The project is known as the Keliber Project, covering mining, processing, and refining of lithium. It aims to produce 15,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium annually, meeting about 10% of Europe’s demand. Lithium is a strategic resource essential for electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy storage. The project is backed by Sibanye-Stillwater and Finnish Minerals Group.

Uttar Pradesh has become the first state to introduce a 10-year ‘warranty’ (Operations & Maintenance commitment) for rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Under the Jal Arpan initiative, ownership and management of water supply schemes have been transferred to Gram Panchayats. The move strengthens decentralised governance and community participation in water management. The state has expanded water quality monitoring infrastructure with district, state, and mobile laboratories (NABL-accredited).
