Jordan recently signed the Artemis Accords at NASA Headquarters, expanding global participation in space governance. It was co-led by NASA and the US Department of State along with founding nations like Australia, Japan, and the UK. India is also a signatory, highlighting its role in global space cooperation. The accords promote peaceful exploration and responsible use of outer space.

A fossil bed from the Holocene epoch was discovered in Thoothukudi after heavy rains in 2023 exposed the site. The Holocene is part of the Quaternary period. The discovery will help scientists better understand India’s ancient wildlife, climate, and environmental conditions. A field survey was conducted by the Zoological Survey of India at the request of local authorities. The discovery highlights the importance of geological studies in reconstructing past ecosystems.

It is a global science-based advisory panel aimed at accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels. The initiative emerged from discussions at COP30. Its mission is to provide fast, science-based and policy-relevant guidance to governments. It focuses on achieving climate targets aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Pompeii is a preserved Roman city near Naples, Italy, at the base of Mount Vesuvius. It was founded around the 6th century BCE by the Samnites and later became part of the Roman Empire. The city was destroyed and buried in 79 CE due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The eruption preserved the city under ash, providing a unique snapshot of Roman life. Pompeii was rediscovered in 1748, revealing buildings, artifacts, and human remains. It offers one of the most complete archaeological records of an ancient city. It is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Recently, AI has helped reconstruct the face and final moments of a victim of the eruption.

Finland has launched Europe’s first fully integrated lithium project near Kokkola. The project is known as the Keliber Project, covering mining, processing, and refining of lithium. It aims to produce 15,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium annually, meeting about 10% of Europe’s demand. Lithium is a strategic resource essential for electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy storage. The project is backed by Sibanye-Stillwater and Finnish Minerals Group.

The Virli Khandar excavation is an ongoing archaeological study at a megalithic burial site in Bhandara district, Maharashtra. The site dates roughly from 1000 BCE to 300 CE, with key evidence around 500 BCE. It reveals distinct burial architecture, including stone circles and menhirs (large upright standing stones used in prehistoric monuments). Around 69 burials have been documented, with selected excavations underway.
