Vijay Hazare Trophy is India’s premier domestic one-day tournament; Vidarbha had previously won the Ranji Trophy but not this title.

The National Paralympic Powerlifting Championship was inaugurated in Uttarakhand in January 2026. The event was launched virtually from COER University, Roorkee. The All India Football Federation appointed Amelia Valverde as head coach of the senior Indian women’s football team. Amelia Valverde is 39 years old and hails from Costa Rica. She has joined the Indian team camp in Antalya, Türkiye. The team is preparing for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026. The tournament is scheduled to be held in March 2026. Her appointment aims to strengthen the performance of the Indian women’s team, also known as the Blue Tigresses.

Young Indian shuttler Devika Sihag won her first Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 300 title at the Thailand Masters in Bangkok. She was leading 21-8, 6-3 in the women’s singles final when Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei retired due to a hamstring injury. Devika Sihag is 20 years old and hails from Haryana. Goh Jin Wei, world No. 68, is a two-time former World Junior Champion. This victory marks the biggest title of Devika Sihag’s career.

Olympian Esha Singh won gold in the women’s individual 10 metre air pistol event at the Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship in Delhi. The 21-year-old scored 239.8 in the final, winning her second senior Asian Championship individual gold. Cheng Yen-Ching of Chinese Taipei won silver, while Yu Ai-Wen claimed bronze. Esha, Manu Bhaker, and Suruchi Singh won team gold in women’s 10 metre air pistol with 1,726 points. Vietnam won team silver and Chinese Taipei took bronze. In men’s 10 metre air pistol, world champion Samrat Rana won bronze.

On 4 February 2026, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elected Soraya Aghaei as its first female member from Iran. She became the 107th IOC member through a 95–2 vote and is the youngest current representative at 30 years of age. She is only the third Iranian International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and the first from Iran since 2004. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is an exclusive body of former athletes, sports leaders, royals, diplomats, industrialists, and cultural figures. Aghaei joined the IOC during the presidency of Kirsty Coventry, the first female IOC President in 132 years.

Jharkhand’s women’s team won the gold medal in the Women’s Category at the Para Throwball National Federation Cup 2026. They defeated host Rajasthan 21–17 in a closely fought final held at Jhunjhunu. The tournament was conducted from February 3 to 5, 2026, and featured high-quality competition and strong tactical play. In the Men’s Category, Andhra Pradesh won the gold medal, while Telangana finished as runners-up. Haryana secured the bronze medal in the men’s event.

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar won gold in men’s 50 metre Rifle 3 Positions at Asian Shooting Championships 2026 in New Delhi with a world record score of 362.0. The event was held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range and he successfully defended his title. India achieved a clean sweep as Niraj Kumar won silver with 361.8 and Akhil Sheoran secured bronze with 343.5. The Indian team of Aishwary, Niraj and Akhil also won team gold, while Japan and Kazakhstan took silver and bronze. In junior category, Adriyan Karmakar won gold with 353.2 score.

Norway skier Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo won his ninth gold medal in cross country skiing at Milan Cortina Winter Olympics 2026. He set a new Winter Games record with this achievement. The 29 year old secured his fourth gold medal of the 2026 Games. He anchored Norway team in the men 4 into 7.5 kilometre relay event. Earlier he was sharing the record with three retired Norwegian athletes. With this win, he became the most successful cross country skier in Winter Olympics history.
