For the first time, India will host the biggest international winter sports event. The Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy 2025 will be held from 20 to 23 August 2025. The venue is Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur, Dehradun. More than 11 Asian countries including China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and India will take part. Athletes will compete in 9 events, from the 222-metre sprint to the 5000-metre relay.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the logo, mascot, and trophy of the 12th Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Championship in Patna. Bihar is hosting the tournament for the first time at Rajgir International Stadium, from 29th August to 7th September 2025. The mascot “Chand,” inspired by the tiger and hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, symbolises courage, agility, and skill. The tournament begins on 29th August, National Sports Day, marking Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary.

A 24-member Indian archery squad is participating in the World Archery Youth Championships 2025 starting 19 August in Winnipeg, Canada. The tournament runs until 24 August and features 570 youth archers from 63 countries. Competitions include recurve and compound disciplines across Under-18 (U18) and Under-21 (U21) categories. Event formats include individual, team, and mixed team for both men and women. India aims to repeat its 2023 performance in Limerick, Ireland, where it won 11 medals, including six golds.

Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s singles tennis title at Cincinnati Open after top seed Jannik Sinner retired due to illness on August 18, 2025. Alcaraz ended world number one Sinner’s 26-match winning streak on hard courts while leading 5-0 in the first set. This was Alcaraz’s third Masters 1000 title of the season after Monte Carlo and Rome. Sinner, aiming to defend his Cincinnati title like Roger Federer in 2015, retired after just 23 minutes.

Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s Test specialist, announced retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24, 2025. The 37-year-old last played a Test over two years ago, with his final First Class match being Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal loss in February 2025. He played 103 Test matches for India, scoring 7195 runs at an average of 43.60, with 19 hundreds and 35 fifties. Pujara was the hero of India’s 2018–19 historic Test series win in Australia, scoring 521 runs and facing 1258 balls. He finished with 21301 First Class runs, 18 double hundreds, and three triple hundreds.

India will host the Boxing World Cup (men’s and women’s) for the first time from November 13-24, 2025 in Greater Noida. The World Boxing Congress will be held on November 23, 2025 in Greater Noida. The event will be held at Vijay Pathik Sports Complex with around 450 boxers from at least 80 countries and 150 officials. India previously hosted Women’s World Boxing Championship in 2018 and 2023 and World Boxing Congress in 2017.

India achieved a historic milestone at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan by winning 50 gold medals, topping the medal tally for the first time. India’s total medal count reached 99, including 26 silver and 23 bronze medals. Host nation Kazakhstan finished second and China third in the medal tally. Ankur Mittal set a world record to win gold in men’s double trap. Elavenil Valarivan won her second Asian title in women’s air rifle and gold in the mixed team event with Arjun Babuta. Neeru Dhanda won India’s first-ever women’s trap gold. India recorded its most successful campaign, winning 35 more medals than the 15th Asian Championship in Changwon, South Korea.

India won the Asia Cup Hockey 2025 beating South Korea 4-1 in the final. This is India’s fourth Asia Cup title and first in eight years. The win also secured India’s spot in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Netherlands and Belgium. Malaysia beat China 4-1 for third place. The Asia Cup Hockey 2025 was held from August 29 to September 7 in Rajgir, Bihar.

Recently, Indian skater Anandkumar Velkumar won India’s first-ever gold medal at the Speed Skating World Championships 2025 in China. He won the senior men’s 1,000m sprint with a time of 1:24.924. Earlier, he secured bronze in the 500m sprint (43.072s), marking India’s first senior world championship medal at the same event. Junior skater Krish Sharma also won gold in the 1,000m sprint category. The championship began on September 13, 2025, in China, and will continue until September 21, 2025.

Central Zone won the Duleep Trophy 2025 after 11 years by defeating South Zone by six wickets in Bengaluru. They chased a modest target of 65 runs on a tricky fifth-day pitch. South Zone fought hard with a strong 426-run second innings, but could not stop Central. This was Central Zone’s seventh Duleep Trophy title. Rajat Patidar’s captaincy shined again, as he earlier led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their first IPL trophy in 18 years in June 2025. The 2025–26 Duleep Trophy was the 62nd edition of India’s domestic first-class cricket tournament. The tournament was held from 28 August to 15 September 2025.
