Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka was given a “timed out” dismissal in a World Cup clash against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi.
This made him the first player to suffer such a dismissal in international cricket’s 146-year history. Mathews was declared timed-out after Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed.

First-ever Khelo India Para Games 2023 logo and mascot was launched by Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.
‘Ujjwala’- a sparrow, was unveiled as the official mascot of Khelo India – Para Games 2023. Since 2018, a total of 11 Khelo India Games have been successfully held. Over 1400 participants from across 32 states and union territories are expected to participate in the maiden Khelo India Para Games in 7 categories.

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has been appointed as the youth voter awareness ambassador for Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief electoral officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole announced the collaboration and said that Suresh Raina holds considerable influence, particularly among the youth.

England midfielder Jude Bellingham created history, becoming the first Real Madrid player to win the Golden Boy award.
Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards. The Golden Boy Award goes to the best player aged under 21 and playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The National Sports Awards 2023, as declared by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, are scheduled to be conferred by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9, 2024. Among the recipients, badminton players Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty and Rankireddy Satwik Sai Raj will be honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2023. Additionally, 26 players are set to receive the Arjuna Award this year.

Indian hockey team midfielder, Hardik Singh, clinched the prestigious title of Men’s FIH Player of the Year at the FIH Hockey Star Awards 2023.
Dutch player Xan de Waard emerged victorious as the Women’s FIH Player of the Year. Savita Punia, captain of the Indian women’s hockey team, secured the title of the Best Goalkeeper of the Year. This marks her third consecutive win in this category, reflecting her consistent excellence between the goalposts.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) formed a three-member ad hoc committee to run the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) after the sports ministry suspended the wrestling body.
The IOA appointed Bhupinder Singh Bajwa as the chairman of the committee with MM Somaya and Manjusha Kanwar as the members of the committee to run the day-to-day affairs of the WFI.

Raghuram Iyer has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). His appointment follows a meticulous selection process conducted by the nomination committee of the IOA. Iyer’s extensive experience in sports management and administration, particularly his previous roles as CEO of Indian Premier League teams Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants, has been recognized as making him an ideal candidate for this position. The appointment comes after a significant delay and repeated reminders from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As CEO, Iyer will play a crucial role in promoting and developing Olympic sports in India and will be an ex-officio member of the IOA’s Executive Council, although without voting rights.
