Former Olympic champion swimmer from Zimbabwe, Kirsty Coventry, was elected as the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Greece. The IOC was founded in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin to revive the ancient Greek Olympics. Its headquarters is in Lausanne, Switzerland. The International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s mission is “Building a Better World through Sport.” It governs the Summer, Winter, and Youth Olympic Games. It oversees National Olympic Committees (NOCs) worldwide. It ensures adherence to the Olympic Charter.

India won both the Men’s and Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025 in Wolverhampton, England. The Men’s team defeated England in the final with a score of 44-41. The Women’s team also beat England in the final with a dominating 57-34 score. For the first time outside Asia, top kabaddi teams competed across West Midlands in Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall, and Wolverhampton. The inaugural edition was hosted by Malaysia in 2019, where India also won both the Men’s and Women’s titles.

The second edition of the Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) concluded on 27 March, 2025. Haryana topped the medal tally with 34 gold medals. Tamil Nadu secured second place with 28 golds, while Uttar Pradesh came third with 23 golds. Around 1,300 athletes participated in six sports across three venues in New Delhi. Events were held at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, and Karni Singh Shooting Range. The games showcased remarkable endurance, resilience, and the spirit of overcoming challenges.

The 18th All India Police Shooting (Sports) Championship 2024-25 was held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, from 24 to 29 March 2025. It was organized at Revati Range, Indore, by the Central School of Armament & Warfare Skills (CSWT), Sisubal. The All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) oversaw the event. The last competition was held in Pune, Maharashtra, in 2019. Around 600 male and female shooters participated. A total of 17 competitions were held for 204 medals. Teams from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and various state police forces participated.

Hockey Haryana won the National Women’s Hockey League 2024-25 final by defeating Hockey Association of Odisha 3-2 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Both teams finished the Pool stage with 15 points, but Hockey Haryana had a superior goal difference with 18 goals scored and six conceded.

India won 8 medals at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 in Buenos Aires, finishing second behind China. The medal tally included 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes. Golds were won by Sift Kaur Samra (women’s 50m rifle 3 positions), Rudrankksh Patil (men’s 10m air rifle), Suruchi Singh (women’s 10m air pistol), and Vijayveer Sidhu (men’s 25m rapid fire pistol). Silvers went to Esha Singh (women’s 25m pistol) and Arya Borse/Rudrankksh Patil (mixed 10m air rifle). Bronzes were claimed by Saurabh Chaudhary/Suruchi Singh (10m air pistol mixed team) and Chain Singh (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions).

India hosts the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sports Championship from April 25 to 27, 2025, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The event features over 170 athletes from 21 Asian countries, including technical officials, team managers, and coaches. This championship aims to promote Yogasana as a competitive global sport.

The Asian Games 2026 will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. This will mark the third time the Asian Games is being hosted in Japan, after Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. Cricket has been officially retained for the Asian Games 2026. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) will make its debut in the 2026 edition of the continental event.

China won the Sudirman Cup 2025, claiming their 14th title and showing their strength in international badminton. The Sudirman Cup is the World Mixed Team Badminton Championship, organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). China has now won 14 out of 18 editions, proving their long-standing dominance in the sport. The tournament was first held in 1989 and China has reached the finals 16 times in a row. South Korea, the second most successful team, has won only 4 titles. An Seyoung won her match in the final, but South Korea still lost to China in the overall tie.
