Indian squash players secured two titles at the 2024 Asian Squash Doubles Championship in Johor, Malaysia. In the men’s doubles, Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar triumphed over Malaysia’s Ong Sai Hung and Syafiq Kamal. James Anderson, one of cricket’s greats, retired from international cricket on July 12, 2024, after England defeated the West Indies by an innings and 114 runs at Lord’s. Anderson, a right-arm fast bowler, debuted in 2002-03 and retired as the highest wicket-taker among fast bowlers with 704 wickets in 188 Test matches. He played 21 years, becoming the second-most capped Test player after Sachin Tendulkar.

In the final of the 9th Women’s Cricket Asia Cup, held on 28 July 2024 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, the hosts defeated India by 8 wickets with 8 balls to spare. Sri Lanka became the third team to win the Women’s Cricket Asia Cup, after India (seven times) and Bangladesh (once). All matches were played in Dambulla. In the semi-finals, India defeated Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka beat Pakistan to reach the finals.

India won the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League final, defeating Nepal 3-2 in Kathmandu. This victory marked India’s second title in the league. Despite a previous loss to Nepal in the league stage, India secured the championship in the finals. The final match displayed high competition and skill between both teams. India took Gold, Nepal secured Silver, and Iran settled for Bronze in the tournament.

Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal in men’s javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a throw of 89.45 meters, his best of the season. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won gold with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, marking Pakistan’s first gold in javelin throw. Jay Shah was elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on August 27, 2024. At 35, Shah will be the youngest ICC chairman, succeeding Greg Barclay, who chose not to seek a third term. Shah will officially start his role on December 1, 2024. Shah was the only nominee for the position, as elections would only be held if multiple candidates were proposed. Shah’s election is significant as cricket aims to grow globally, with the sport set to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Shah has previously chaired the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs subcommittee.

Sharath Kamal has been named the first Indian ambassador of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Foundation.
The announcement was made during day 11 of the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) season five at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Sharath was elected to the ITTF’s Athlete’s Commission in November 2022. He will promote table tennis for development, especially among children from underprivileged backgrounds. He holds the record for the most medals in Commonwealth Games history for table tennis, including 13 medals with three golds at the 2022 Birmingham Games.

Yogesh Kathuniya won the silver medal in the men’s discus F56 final at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. The event took place at Stade de France. Kathuniya, 27 years old, achieved his season-best throw of 42.22 meters. Brazil’s Claudiney Batista dos Santos won gold with a Paralympic Record of 46.86 meters. Greece’s Konstantinos Tzounis secured the bronze medal with a throw of 41.32 meters. Slovakia’s Dusan Laczko finished fourth with a throw of 41.20 meters.
