A C Sreehari, noted Malayalam poet and academic, passed away at the age of 56. He was the former Head of the Department of English at Payyanur College. His poems are included in university curricula across Kerala. His notable works include Yuva Kavithakkoottam (1999) and Kavithayude Noottandu (2001). He earned a Ph.D. from Kannur University in 2015. He was a recipient of the N.N. Kakkad Award, V.T. Kumaran Award, and Vyloppilli Award.

The 29th India–US Army to Army Staff Talks (AAST) were held in Hawaii. The talks were co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai and Lieutenant General Joel Vowell. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing interoperability, expanding professional exchanges, and deepening military collaboration. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India–US strategic partnership.

World Food Safety Day is observed every year on 7 June. The theme for 2026 is “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere”. The campaign is led by the World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization. It highlights the global burden of foodborne diseases, which cause hundreds of millions of illnesses and thousands of preventable deaths annually. The goal is to strengthen food safety systems and ensure safe food for all.

Kirthai-II Hydroelectric Project has been revived in Jammu & Kashmir after remaining stalled for several years. It is a 930 MW hydropower project planned on the Chenab River. The project is located in Kishtwar district, Jammu & Kashmir. It is a run-of-river hydropower project. The planned reservoir capacity is 51.26 million cubic metres.

Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan is a flagship water conservation initiative of Madhya Pradesh. The campaign has recently gained international recognition as a successful model of water conservation. During the Sadanira Samagam held in Bhopal, diplomats from several countries appreciated the campaign and expressed interest in adopting similar models. It focuses on the rejuvenation of rivers, ponds, and traditional water bodies. The initiative promotes sustainable water management and community participation.

A new Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) was inaugurated in Lucknow by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. It will provide weather forecasting services for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and adjoining regions. It aims to improve weather monitoring, forecasting, disaster warnings, agriculture advisories, aviation services, and public safety. Under Mission Mausam, India’s Doppler Weather Radar network has expanded from 17 radars in 2014 to 50 currently, with 50 more planned.

According to recent report, India slipped to the 7th position globally in stock market valuation, overtaken by South Korea. India’s current stock market capitalization stands at around 4.9 trillion. South Korea and Taiwan have market capitalizations of over 5 trillion, moving ahead of India. Over the last two years, India has fallen three places as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea surpassed it. Reasons cited for the decline include: continuous foreign investor selling since September 2024, muted corporate earnings and relatively slow progress in AI-driven technology sectors. currently, United States has the world’s largest stock market capitalization.

Ci2, developed by Fortytwo Labs, became India’s first cryptographic algorithm to receive C-SAFE recognition. Fortytwo Labs is a Pune-based deep-tech cybersecurity company. It is India’s first and only C-SAFE recognized organization. C-SAFE (Cryptographic Security Assessment and Functional Evaluation) is India’s first independent framework for evaluating and certifying cryptographic algorithms. It is awarded by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI).

Researchers at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, have developed a theoretical framework that uses sound waves to generate and control spin currents. The study, published in Physical Review B, advances the field of Spintronics, which uses particle spin instead of electric charge for information processing. The researchers focused on magnons, magnetic wave excitations that can carry information with lower energy losses than electrons. The framework shows that surface acoustic waves (sound waves) can create pseudogauge fields that influence magnon motion and generate spin currents. The research used a graphene-like magnetic material placed on a piezoelectric substrate.

Ministry of Commerce & Industry recently launched the BHAVYA Portal in New Delhi. The portal marks the operationalisation of the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA), a ₹33,660 crore Cabinet-approved initiative. The scheme aims to develop 100 world-class, investment-ready industrial parks across India. The BHAVYA Portal is a single-window digital platform designed to manage the complete lifecycle of industrial park development. It facilitates state project submissions, real-time project monitoring, construction tracking, and investor mapping. The initiative is being implemented by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
