A rare Himalayan Brown Bear was recently captured on camera in Gamgul Siyabehi Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located in Himachal Pradesh in the catchment area of the Siul Nala, a tributary of the Ravi River. It shares its northern boundary with Jammu and Kashmir. The sanctuary is notable for being the only sanctuary in Himachal Pradesh where the Kashmir Stag has been reported.

Recently, the MAHA (Mission for Advancement in High-impact Areas) Water Mission was jointly launched by Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the Ministry of Jal Shakti to promote innovation and sustainable solutions in the water sector. The mission aims to connect science, entrepreneurship, industry, academia, and grassroots initiatives to strengthen India’s long-term water security. It supports innovations from laboratory research to field deployment and focuses on scalable and localised water solutions. The mission focuses on five priority areas: water resource management, drinking water, water quality and ecological health, water-use efficiency and circular economy, and climate resilience.

Chandigarh University has become the first private university in India to establish an IndiaAI Data Lab in collaboration with Intel India. The lab aims to enhance students’ employability by providing industry-relevant skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, and emerging technologies. It will offer a simulated apprenticeship platform, enabling students to gain hands-on experience and work on real-world AI projects. The IndiaAI Data Lab will serve as a hub for research, innovation, hackathons, faculty development, and industry-academia collaboration.

Andhra Pradesh’s Community Managed Natural Farming (APCNF) programme won the 2026 Food Planet Prize, one of the world’s largest awards for sustainable food systems. The award is presented by the Curt Bergfors Foundation and carries a prize amount of $1.5 million. APCNF was launched in 2016 by Rythu Sadhikara Samstha under the Agriculture Department of Andhra Pradesh. The programme promotes natural farming by reducing dependence on synthetic inputs and improving soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan released the book When Audit Matters: CAG Interventions That Made a Difference at the Vice-President’s House. The book is edited by former Vinod Rai. The Vice-President described auditing as a vital instrument for strengthening democracy, transparency, and public trust. He highlighted the role of ethics, accountability, and good governance in public administration. The book examines important audit interventions and governance issues in South Asia.

Mette Frederiksen secured a third consecutive term as the Prime Minister of Denmark by forming a new centre-left four-party minority coalition government. The coalition includes the Social Democrats, Socialist People’s Party, Radikale Venstre, and Moderates. The new Cabinet has created history as 11 of its 21 ministers are women, marking the first time women hold a majority in a Danish Cabinet. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Frederiksen, and both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership.

Scientists from the Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, have developed a gene-silencing strategy for effective tumor inhibition in breast cancer. The institute functions under the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Researchers developed a biodegradable nanocarrier platform for targeted gene therapy in breast cancer. The technology uses mesoporous silica nanoparticles to deliver small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules that silence disease-causing genes. The nanocarrier is functionalized with a protamine biopolymer and an MUC1-specific aptamer for precise targeting of breast cancer cells.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship organized an Industry Interaction on the PM-SETU Scheme for the Rajasthan cluster on 3 June 2026. The event focused on effective implementation of Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) in the Bhiwadi industrial hub of Rajasthan. PM-SETU is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched to strengthen India’s vocational training ecosystem. It aims to modernize 1,000 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into industry-aligned and future-ready training institutions. The scheme follows a hub-and-spoke model, comprising 200 Hub ITIs and 800 Spoke ITIs.

Recently, the Tana Bhagat community in Jharkhand opposed a highway expansion project under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, alleging violations of tribal land rights. The community claims that Gram Sabha consent was not obtained as required under the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 and that the project violates protections under the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act, 1908. Tana Bhagats are a distinct socio-religious community within the Oraon (Kurukh) tribe of Jharkhand.

The United States and NATO allies are conducting BALTOPS 2026 in the Baltic Sea amid continuing tensions with Russia. BALTOPS (Baltic Operations) is an annual U.S.-led multinational naval exercise conducted since 1971. The exercise focuses on maritime security, protection of sea lines of communication, logistics, and reinforcement of NATO’s eastern flank. BALTOPS 2026 includes operations around Gotland, a strategically important island in the Baltic Sea. The exercise enhances interoperability and cooperation among NATO member states and partner countries.
