Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, in collaboration with Open Network for Digital Commerce, recently held a Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Roundtable to discuss DigiDukaan. DigiDukaan is an initiative of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) that aims to digitise kirana stores for business-to-business (B2B) procurement. The initiative is designed to improve efficiency across the retail supply chain by digitally connecting retailers, distributors, and brands.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and President of the French Republic HE Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated the maiden edition of Bharat Innovates summit 2026 in Nice, France. The event was held at Palais des Expositions de Nice and was organized by the Government of India under the Union Ministry of Education. Bharat Innovates 2026 serves as a major platform to promote innovation-led partnerships between Indian deep-tech innovators and global stakeholders. The Innovation Pavilion showcased 120 cutting-edge technologies developed by Indian startups and premier educational institutions.

Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod won the gold medal in the recurve mixed team event at Archery World Cup Stage 3. The tournament was held in Antalya, Turkey. The Indian pair defeated reigning Olympic champions Oh Ye-jin and Kim Je-deok of South Korea by 5–1 in the final. This was the first World Cup mixed team gold medal for both Dhiraj and Kumkum. In the Men’s Individual Recurve event, Dhiraj Bommadevara won another gold medal. He defeated Lee Woo Seok by 6–4 in the final. India finished second in the medal tally behind China, while Mexico finished third and South Korea fourth.

India’s first 8-lane tunnel is set to open beneath the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve. Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve is located in Rajasthan. The reserve is also known as Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary. It lies in a valley formed by two parallel mountain ranges: Mukundra and Gargola.

Lucknow has emerged as India’s No. 1 rooftop solar city, surpassing Surat in solar panel installations. Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Lucknow crossed 88,000 rooftop solar installations by April 2026 and later exceeded 1,02,603 cumulative installations. In May 2026 alone, Lucknow added 9,667 new solar systems. On 31 May 2026, the city installed 333 solar units in a single day, the highest in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh added 64,742 rooftop solar installations in May 2026, accounting for over 20% of India’s monthly total. Around 3.5 lakh homes in Uttar Pradesh now have rooftop solar systems.

World Sea Turtle Day is celebrated every year on 16 June. The day honors the birthday of Archie Carr, known as the father of sea turtle biology. It aims to raise awareness about the need to protect sea turtles from threats such as plastic pollution, habitat loss, and climate change.

The Telangana Government has launched a Breakfast and Milk Scheme for students of state-run schools and colleges up to Class 12. The scheme aims to improve student enrolment and nutritional status. It benefits around 29 lakh students across the state. The government will spend about ₹720 crore annually on the scheme. Out of this, ₹540 crore is allocated for breakfast and ₹180 crore for milk supply. The scheme covers students from Pre-Primary to Class 12.

Project GIB (Great Indian Bustard) has successfully hatched three chicks of the Great Indian Bustard, increasing the captive conservation population to 94 birds. The Great Indian Bustard (GIB) is a ground-dwelling bird found in grasslands, scrublands, and semi-arid regions. It is endemic to the Indian subcontinent. The species is now mainly confined to Rajasthan, with small populations in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Desert National Park in Jaisalmer and Barmer is one of its most important habitats.

Under Operation DRISHTI, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force have launched a Mega Advanced Surgical Eye Camp at Military Hospital Namkum, Ranchi. The camp is conducted from June 15–19, 2026, to provide free advanced eye surgeries to more than 200 beneficiaries. Operation DRISHTI is a flagship humanitarian healthcare initiative of the Armed Forces Medical Services and the Indian Army. The initiative focuses on providing advanced ophthalmic treatment and free sight-restoring surgeries. It aims to deliver specialised eye care services to remote, underserved, and difficult regions across India.
