South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship 2026 was won by India after defeating Bangladesh 3–1 in the final. The final was played in Madgaon. India won the title for a record sixth time and lifted the trophy after a gap of seven years. Goals for India were scored by Pyari Xaxa, Sanfida, and Linda Kom. Bangladesh’s goal was scored by Ritu Porna Chakma.

Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) are a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched in 1998. The scheme aims to provide quality residential education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from Classes 6 to 12 in remote tribal areas. The programme was revamped in 2018-19 to expand its reach and improve educational infrastructure. Recently, National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) signed an MoU with Learning Links Foundation to implement the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) programme in EMRSs.

Recently, the Punjab Forest Department prepared a ₹5.36-crore development plan for the Jhajjar-Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located in Rupnagar district, Punjab. The sanctuary lies near the Sutlej River in the foothills of the Shivalik Range. It is characterized by dry deciduous forests.

The National SC-ST Hub (NSSH) Scheme is playing a significant role in advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 through the empowerment of marginalized entrepreneurial communities. The scheme was launched in October 2016 by the Ministry of MSME, aims to empower Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) entrepreneurs. The scheme promotes entrepreneurship by providing support in areas such as capacity building, technology upgradation, market access, financial assistance, and participation in public procurement. It seeks to increase the participation of SC/ST-owned enterprises in government procurement and business opportunities.

The Defence Minister recently reviewed the progress of major HAL projects, including delays in the delivery of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A. The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the procurement of 97 Tejas Mk1A aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Tejas Mk1A is developed by HAL. It is regarded as one of the world’s lightest fighter aircraft in its class. The aircraft is capable of offensive air support, air combat, and ground attack missions.

Ministry of Commerce & Industry recently launched the BHAVYA Portal in New Delhi. The portal marks the operationalisation of the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA), a ₹33,660 crore Cabinet-approved initiative. The scheme aims to develop 100 world-class, investment-ready industrial parks across India. The BHAVYA Portal is a single-window digital platform designed to manage the complete lifecycle of industrial park development. It facilitates state project submissions, real-time project monitoring, construction tracking, and investor mapping. The initiative is being implemented by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

The Andhra Pradesh Government recently launched the ‘Yogandhra-2026’ campaign to promote a mass yoga movement and preventive healthcare across the state. The 14-day initiative will run until 20 June and culminate with celebrations of the 12th International Yoga Day on 21 June. The campaign aims to involve one crore citizens in daily yoga activities. Around 25,000 registrations were recorded on the first day through the official portal. The theme of Yogandhra-2026 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Rapido recently partnered with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) to promote the Rah-Veer Scheme, which encourages citizens to assist road accident victims during the critical “Golden Hour.” As part of the campaign, more than 4 lakh Rapido captains took a road safety pledge, creating a Guinness World Record. The Rah-Veer (or Rahveer) scheme was launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The initiative aims to improve emergency response, save lives, and strengthen road safety awareness across India.

American Foulbrood (AFB) disease recently came into the news after an outbreak was confirmed in Scotland, prompting warnings to beekeepers to strengthen hive biosecurity measures. It is a fatal infectious disease of honey bee larvae caused by the spore-forming bacterium Paenibacillus larvae. The disease affects only larvae but can weaken and destroy an entire bee colony within a few weeks. Infection occurs when larvae consume food contaminated with bacterial spores. It spreads through contaminated beekeeping equipment, infected combs, and movement of spores between hives by adult bees.

Astronomers recently found evidence of winds blowing from Sagittarius A*, marking a major breakthrough after nearly 50 years of research. Sagittarius A* is the supermassive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy.
It was discovered in the 1970s and is located in the constellation Sagittarius. Although largely dormant, it occasionally absorbs gas and dust and has an estimated mass of 4.3 million times that of the Sun. Sagittarius A* is a powerful source of radio waves, with much of its radiation produced through the synchrotron mechanism involving electrons and magnetic fields.
