The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) recently published its first scientific results on neutrino flavour oscillation. JUNO is a large underground neutrino detector located near Kaiping in Guangdong Province, China. The project is an international collaboration involving 74 institutions from Asia, Europe, and America. It is led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences through the Institute of High Energy Physics. JUNO is China’s second neutrino experiment, after the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. Its main scientific objective is to determine the Neutrino Mass Ordering (NMO).

Under Operation DRISHTI, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force have launched a Mega Advanced Surgical Eye Camp at Military Hospital Namkum, Ranchi. The camp is conducted from June 15–19, 2026, to provide free advanced eye surgeries to more than 200 beneficiaries. Operation DRISHTI is a flagship humanitarian healthcare initiative of the Armed Forces Medical Services and the Indian Army. The initiative focuses on providing advanced ophthalmic treatment and free sight-restoring surgeries. It aims to deliver specialised eye care services to remote, underserved, and difficult regions across India.

Scientists recently discovered the physical mechanism behind the snapping action of the Venus flytrap. The study found that when the trap is stimulated, the outer cell walls rapidly soften by about 30–40%, making the tissue flexible and releasing internal stress that causes the trap to snap shut. Venus flytrap is a small perennial carnivorous plant belonging to the sundew family. It is native to North Carolina and South Carolina in the United States. The plant grows in moist, acidic, nutrient-poor soil and captures insects to obtain nutrients.

World Crocodile Day is observed annually on 17 June to raise awareness about the conservation of crocodilians, including crocodiles, alligators, and gharials. The day highlights their role as apex predators that help maintain balance in aquatic ecosystems. It aims to spread awareness about threats such as habitat loss, pollution, and human-wildlife conflict.

Uzbekistan became the 10th member and shareholder of the New Development Bank (NDB) in June 2026 after ratifying the Articles of Agreement (AoA). It is the first Central Asian country to join the NDB. The NDB plans to support projects in Uzbekistan in sectors such as energy, water management, transport, municipal infrastructure, and social infrastructure. The bank will provide support through financing in national currencies, national procurement systems, and environmental risk assessment mechanisms.

Recently, 15 countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Pacific adopted the Mombasa Declaration to strengthen global efforts against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing. The declaration was adopted during the 11th Our Ocean Conference (OOC) held in Mombasa, Kenya, from which it derives its name. It calls for greater transparency in fisheries by improving access to information on fishing vessels, ownership, and licensing. Its objective is to protect marine ecosystems, ensure sustainable fisheries, and safeguard the livelihoods of millions dependent on fishing.

Recently, Bharat Buildcon 2026 – One Nation, One Expo was inaugurated at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi. The event is a major exhibition for the building materials and construction industry. The exhibition witnessed participation from more than 90 countries and over 100 Indian cities. It showcases products and innovations across 24 segments, including cement, steel, ceramics, sanitaryware, furniture, electricals, paints, and construction technologies. The event serves as a platform for industry interaction, technology showcase, and business networking.

Recently, Khadi Rozgar Utsav 2026 was organized in Bhiwani, Haryana, in the presence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. It was organized to promote employment generation, rural entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. The event highlighted that around 80% of artisans associated with the Khadi sector are women, making it an important instrument for women’s empowerment. The government is supporting women self-help groups (SHGs) and facilitating the marketing of their products through local markets and e-commerce platforms. The Khadi and Village Industries sector has emerged as a major contributor to rural livelihoods and employment.

Recently, the National Rainfed Area Authority held a meeting on draft National Technical Guidelines for improved watershed management under the REWARD Programme. REWARD stands for Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development. It is a watershed development programme being implemented in the states of Karnataka and Odisha from 2021 to 2026. The programme is supported by the World Bank. It aims to strengthen watershed management practices, enhance farmers’ resilience, and support value chains in selected watersheds.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) organized “Project Super 50”, a Civil Services Examination Guidance Programme, at its headquarters in New Delhi. The theme of the programme was “Guide • Mentor • Empower”. The initiative aims to mentor and empower Scheduled Caste (SC) youth aspiring to join the Civil Services. The programme provided guidance on Civil Services preparation, examination strategy, and administrative careers.
