India reaffirmed its commitment to women-led development at the SCO Women’s Forum 2026. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Women’s Forum 2026 was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event, focused on the theme of Women’s Leadership. India stressed that women are key drivers of economic growth, not just beneficiaries. Around 100 million women are part of 9 million Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in India. More than 30 million women have become “Lakhpati Didis”, showing progress in financial empowerment.

Seven endangered Golden Langurs rescued from wildlife traffickers were recently released into Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park. The Golden Langur (Trachypithecus geei), also known as Gee’s Golden Langur, is an Old World monkey found only in western Assam and southern Bhutan. Its distribution is restricted between the Bhutan foothills, Manas River, Sankosh River, and Brahmaputra River.It inhabits moist evergreen, tropical deciduous, and riverine forests, spending most of its life in the upper forest canopy. It is listed as Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List.

Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh released the memoir of Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla in New Delhi. The book is titled “The Second Orbit: Belief of a Man… Dreams of 1.4 Billion Hearts.” The memoir narrates his journey from a fighter pilot to an astronaut and his mission to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of Axiom-4. It provides insights into astronaut selection, training, mission preparation, and life in space. The event also marked the first anniversary of the Axiom-4 mission, launched on 25 June last year.

Recently, the ASPIRE Scheme was highlighted for transforming rural livelihoods by supporting aspiring entrepreneurs through training, incubation, and business development assistance. ASPIRE stands for A Scheme for Promotion of Innovation, Rural Industries and Entrepreneurship. It is implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The scheme promotes rural entrepreneurship, innovation, and employment generation, especially in rural and agro-based sectors.

National Statistics Day is observed annually on 29 June in India. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, regarded as the pioneer of modern statistics in India. The day highlights the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning, governance, and evidence-based policymaking. It aims to create awareness about the role of statistics in national development and data-driven decision-making.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, the highest national honour of Seychelles. The honour was presented by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during PM Modi’s three-day State Visit. The award recognises PM Modi’s contributions to environmental conservation, sustainable development, climate action, and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a stable, secure, and prosperous Indian Ocean Region under the Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the SDG National Indicator Framework (NIF) Progress Report 2026 and related publications on the 20th Statistics Day. The National Indicator Framework (NIF) 2026 contains 277 indicators to monitor India’s progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Social protection coverage increased from 22% (2016) to 65.3% (2026). Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) declined from 122 to 87 per 1 lakh live births. Sex Ratio at Birth improved from 896 to 918 females per 1,000 males, while the female-to-male ratio among professionals rose to 51.3%. Unemployment rate declined from 6.1% (2017–18) to 3.1% (2025).

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation received the Achievement Award in the Operational Excellence category from UITP, the International Association of Public Transport in June 2026. The award recognises DMRC’s AI-powered door-to-door travel service that integrates first/last-mile connectivity, real-time information, seamless ticketing, and a single integrated fare. The service is available through the DMRC Sarthi App, enabling commuters to plan and book their complete journey from origin to destination. The award was presented during the UITP Awards Ceremony in Brussels.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network released the 2026 Sustainable Development Report during the third Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) 2026. The Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) is a prominent hybrid global platform held annually in Hamburg, Germany. Its primary goal is to rescue the unraveling UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by building practical economic, digital, and environmental alliances between the Global North and Global South. The first HSC was held on 7–8 October 2024. The theme of Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2026 is “Together we co-create sustainable development.”

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda launched the SUMAN Roadmap 2030 during the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW). The roadmap aims to improve maternal and newborn healthcare and accelerate India’s progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. It is based on the RMNCHA+N framework and follows a life-cycle approach from pre-pregnancy to the postnatal period. RMNCAH+N stands for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition. The roadmap includes the SUMAN Package for Pregnant Women, JANANI Portal, AI-enabled labour rooms, and Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments.
