LineShine supercomputer has been ranked as the world’s fastest system on the TOP500 list. The LineShine supercomputer was developed and launched by China. It achieved a performance of 2.198 exaflops, surpassing the US supercomputer El Capitan. The system is located in Shenzhen, China, and marks the first time since 2017 that China holds the top position. LineShine is built using fully domestically designed processors and hardware, without foreign technology. It features nearly 14 million computing cores and advanced liquid cooling and high-speed interconnect systems.

Indian conservationists Parveen Shaikh and Dr. Barkha Subba have won the 2026 Whitley Awards, also known as the “Green Oscars”, presented in London. The award recognises grassroots environmental leaders working for conservation of endangered species and fragile ecosystems. In 2026, for the first time in its history, all six recipients of the prize were women, marking a major milestone. Parveen Shaikh worked on the “Guardians of the Skimmer” project to protect the endangered Indian Skimmer along river systems using community participation. Dr. Barkha Subba focused on conserving the Himalayan salamander and restoring wetlands in the Darjeeling Himalaya.

Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas is observed on 25 June to commemorate the imposition of the National Emergency in 1975 and to honour those who suffered during that period. On 25 June 1975, the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed proclaimed a National Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution, citing internal disturbances. During the Emergency, several Fundamental Rights, including those under Article 19, were suspended, press censorship was imposed, and judicial remedies were restricted.

Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh released the memoir of Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla in New Delhi. The book is titled “The Second Orbit: Belief of a Man… Dreams of 1.4 Billion Hearts.” The memoir narrates his journey from a fighter pilot to an astronaut and his mission to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of Axiom-4. It provides insights into astronaut selection, training, mission preparation, and life in space. The event also marked the first anniversary of the Axiom-4 mission, launched on 25 June last year.

Recently, the facial identification requirement for accident victims under the PM-RAHAT Scheme has been removed to make it easier for victims to claim benefits. PM-RAHAT stands for Road Accident Victim Hospitalization and Assured Treatment. It is a Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The scheme provides cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh per eligible road accident victim for up to 7 days from the date of the accident. The scheme is implemented through the integration of eDAR (Electronic Detailed Accident Report) and TMS 2.0 (Transaction Management System) of the National Health Authority.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the “Go East” initiative to boost industrial growth in Odisha and eastern India. “Go East” stands for Government of Odisha – Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force and aims to attract investment across eastern and northeastern states. A high-level special task force and a dedicated “Go East Cell” will be created to fast-track industrial projects and approvals. A digital monitoring system called “Go Swift” will be developed to ensure real-time tracking of investment proposals and approvals. The initiative focuses on sectors like steel, aluminium, chemicals, petrochemicals, semiconductors, and electronics, especially at Paradip hub.

Ethan Vaz became India’s 96th Chess Grandmaster after securing his third and final Grandmaster norm at the Sarajevo GM Mix tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At 14 years of age, he became the third Grandmaster from Goa after Anurag Mhamal and Leon Mendonca. He has a live FIDE rating of 2522. Ethan won two gold medals (Rapid and Blitz) at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in 2026. He also qualified for the 2026 World and Asian Youth Chess Championships.

Team India won 5 medals (3 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze) at the Global Skills Challenge (GSC) Australia 2026, held from 23–29 June 2026. Gold Medalists are Pavan Bhadravati Suresha (Additive Manufacturing), Mausam Kumar Giri (Cloud Computing), and Vishnupriya Sunil (Health & Social Care). Harsh Ramesh Pawar (3D Digital Game Art) won silver medal. Muskan (Painting & Decorating) won bronze medal. India fielded a 30-member contingent (15 competitors and 15 experts) across 15 skill categories. The event served as a preparation for the 48th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Shanghai, China, later in 2026.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network released the 2026 Sustainable Development Report during the third Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) 2026. The Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) is a prominent hybrid global platform held annually in Hamburg, Germany. Its primary goal is to rescue the unraveling UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by building practical economic, digital, and environmental alliances between the Global North and Global South. The first HSC was held on 7–8 October 2024. The theme of Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2026 is “Together we co-create sustainable development.”

National Doctors’ Day is celebrated annually in India on 1 July. The day honours the selfless service and contributions of doctors to society. It commemorates the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal. It was established by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in 1991. The theme for 2026 is “Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healers?” The 2026 theme highlights the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of doctors and the need to support healthcare professionals.
