Notes:
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has invited nominations for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) 2026. It is the highest civilian honour for children in India. The award is presented annually by the President of India on Veer Bal Diwas. Veer Bal Diwas is observed on 26 December in memory of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh. The award recognizes exceptional achievements in six categories: Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture, and Science & Technology. Eligible candidates must be Indian citizens aged above 5 years and up to 18 years as of 31 July of the respective year.

The Vice President recently released the book Sanskritir Ratna Bhandar: Bhaowaiyar Itibritto. The book is authored by Jayanta Kumar Roy and Sangita Roy. It chronicles the historical evolution and cultural significance of Bhawaiya, a traditional folk music genre of North Bengal, Assam, and adjoining regions. The book highlights the cultural heritage of the Koch Rajbanshi community and the role of festivals, agriculture, and community life in shaping the Bhawaiya tradition. Bhawaiya folk music reflects the emotions, aspirations, struggles, and wisdom of ordinary people and forms an important part of India’s cultural heritage.

Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas is observed on 25 June to commemorate the imposition of the National Emergency in 1975 and to honour those who suffered during that period. On 25 June 1975, the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed proclaimed a National Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution, citing internal disturbances. During the Emergency, several Fundamental Rights, including those under Article 19, were suspended, press censorship was imposed, and judicial remedies were restricted.

The Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar district, Jammu & Kashmir, has entered its final phase, with over 83% of construction completed. It is a 624 MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric project being developed on the Chenab River. The project is located between the Kirthai II project (upstream) and the Kwar project (downstream). It includes a 135-metre concrete gravity dam and an underground powerhouse with four 156 MW Francis turbines.

India launched Operation Amistad in response to devastating earthquakes in Venezuela that caused heavy loss of life and widespread destruction. The mission is a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation to support Venezuela in rescue and recovery efforts. As part of the operation, the Indian Air Force deployed two C-17 Globemaster aircraft carrying relief materials and rescue personnel. A 41-member Indian rescue and medical team has been sent to assist in search and rescue and emergency healthcare.

The second Pax Silica Summit 2026 was held on June 25–26 in Washington, D.C, United States. Pax Silica is a flagship initiative of the United States Department of State focused on AI and supply chain security. It aims to build a trusted economic security network among allied countries and partners. The focus areas include critical minerals, semiconductors, AI infrastructure, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, and logistics. In 2026, 10 new partners joined the Pax Silica Declaration, raising the total to 24 signatories within six months.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the “Go East” initiative to boost industrial growth in Odisha and eastern India. “Go East” stands for Government of Odisha – Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force and aims to attract investment across eastern and northeastern states. A high-level special task force and a dedicated “Go East Cell” will be created to fast-track industrial projects and approvals. A digital monitoring system called “Go Swift” will be developed to ensure real-time tracking of investment proposals and approvals. The initiative focuses on sectors like steel, aluminium, chemicals, petrochemicals, semiconductors, and electronics, especially at Paradip hub.

A new parasitoid wasp species, Tetrastichus narayandebnathi, was discovered in Rajarhat, West Bengal. The species is named in honour of Narayan Debnath, creator of Batul and Nonte-Phonte. It is a gregarious primary parasitoid of tortoise beetle pupae, eventually killing its host. The discovery is only the second record from India of the genus Tetrastichus parasitising the Cassidinae (leaf beetle) subfamily.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Abelardo de la Espriella on his victory in the Colombian presidential election. Colombia is located in northwestern South America and is known as the “Gateway of South America”. It is bordered by Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador, with coastlines on the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The capital of Colombia is Bogotá.

The annual Aghar Jitto Mela has begun in Aghar Jitto village, Reasi district (Jammu & Kashmir). The mela saw participation from devotees, locals, and visitors. An agriculture awareness camp was organized to inform farmers about Central and UT government schemes. It includes religious rituals, cultural programmes, and government exhibitions showcasing welfare schemes.
