    But the wikipedia Shows that the cotton is also the Bast Fiber.
    It Explain follows :

    Often bast fibres have higher tensile strength than other kinds, and are used in high-quality textiles (sometimes in blends with cotton or synthetic fibres), ropes, yarn, paper, composite materials and burlap.

    A true Bast Fibre is that which is derived from the Phloem cells. The cotton fibers are neither lignified nor cells. They are not true fibres. They develop from the outer layer of the seed.
