Simranpreet Kaur Brar won the Junior Women’s 25m Sports Pistol event. She shot 39 in the final to secure the gold medal, continuing her impressive performance streak.

Jharkhand won their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025, beating Haryana by 69 runs in Pune. Captain Ishan Kishan smashed 101 off 49 balls; Kumar Kushagra scored 81 off 38. Jharkhand posted 262/3 in 20 overs – highest total in an Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) final and 5th highest overall. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is a domestic Twenty20 (T20) cricket tournament in India. It is organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament is named after former Indian Test cricketer Syed Mushtaq Ali.

Jammu and Kashmir is hosting its first-ever International Indian Style Wrestling (Dangal) event along with the Rustam-e-Jammu Kashmir Title 2025. The event is taking place at the Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, and started on December 20, 2025. More than 100 national and international wrestling stars are participating in the competition. Wrestlers will compete for the Rustam-e-Jammu Kashmir Title 2025. This marks a major milestone in promoting traditional Indian wrestling in the region.

Indian tennis player Vaidehi Chaudhary won the Women’s Singles title at the W35 Solapur Tennis Tournament in Maharashtra. The 25-year-old, seeded sixth, defeated Japan’s Michika Ozeki in a three-set final, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, after losing the first set. In the semifinals, Vaidehi defeated national champion Vaishnavi Adkar to reach the final. This victory is her fourth career International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles title and her first since June 2024, when she won the W35 Taipei Formosa Cup in Chinese Taipei.

Fourteen-year-old Amieyra Khoslla won the Gold Medal in Youth Girls (Under-17) at the 29th National Sport Climbing Championship (NSCC) 2025 held in Bengaluru from 26–29 December. She competed in the bouldering discipline, showing excellent strength, technique, and calm mindset. In the qualification round on 27 December, she scored a perfect 100.0, topping all four bouldering problems. The championship was organised by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) with the General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure (GETHNAA).

Sjoerd Marijne has been appointed as the chief coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, announced by Hockey India. The Dutch coach previously led India to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India’s second Olympic appearance in over 36 years. His first major assignment will be the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad, Telangana, from 8th to 14th March 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 72nd National Volleyball Tournament via video conferencing. The inaugural ceremony took place at Dr. Sampoorna­nand Sports Stadium in Varanasi. The tournament takes place from January 4 to January 11, 2026. More than 1,000 players are participating across 58 teams representing various states and institutions. The event aims to showcase high-level competition, sportsmanship, and emerging talent in Indian volleyball. Hosting the tournament in Varanasi highlights the city’s growing sports infrastructure and focus on athletic development. T

The 2nd Khelo India Beach Games officially began on 5th January 2026 at Ghoghla Beach in Diu. More than 2,100 athletes are participating across eight different sports in the event. The games are being organised by the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, under the technical supervision of the Sports Authority of India and national sports federations. The event will be held from 5th to 10th January 2026. There are six medal sports: Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Beach Sepak Takraw, Beach Kabaddi, Pencak Silat, and Open Water Swimming. Two events, Mallakhamb and Tug of War, are included as non-medal events.
