Jaismine defeated Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland 4-1, while Minakshi beat three-time world champion Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan 4-1. Nupur Sheoran claimed silver (80+ kg) and Pooja Rani bronze (80 kg). This became India’s best-ever performance at a Women’s World Championships held outside the country.

Central Zone won the Duleep Trophy 2025 after 11 years by defeating South Zone by six wickets in Bengaluru. They chased a modest target of 65 runs on a tricky fifth-day pitch. South Zone fought hard with a strong 426-run second innings, but could not stop Central. This was Central Zone’s seventh Duleep Trophy title. Rajat Patidar’s captaincy shined again, as he earlier led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their first IPL trophy in 18 years in June 2025. The 2025–26 Duleep Trophy was the 62nd edition of India’s domestic first-class cricket tournament. The tournament was held from 28 August to 15 September 2025.

Himanshi Tokas, a 20-year-old from Munirka, South Delhi, made history as the first Indian judoka to be ranked World No. 1 in the junior women’s 63 kg category. On 13th September 2025, she won gold at the Asian Junior Championship in Jakarta, securing her place at the top. She now leads the International Judo Federation (IJF) junior ranking with 610 points. Himanshi began judo at 18, trained under coach Yashpal Solanki at the Sports Authority of India Centre of Excellence, Bhopal, and even trained in Japan.

From September 28 to October 11, 2025, Ahmedabad is hosting the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship 2025 at Veer Savarkar Sports Complex. This is the first time the championship is held in India. The event is organized by Asia Aquatics and the Swimming Federation of India with support from the Sports Authority of Gujarat. More than 900 athletes from 29 countries will compete in swimming, diving, artistic swimming, and water polo. The championship serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Games.

Manipur won the 30th Senior Women’s National Football Championship – Rajmata Jijabai Trophy 2025 by defeating West Bengal 1–0 in the final. The match was held at Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) Ashrama Ground, Narainpur, Chhattisgarh. With this victory, Manipur successfully defended its title and lifted the trophy for a record 23rd time. The winning goal was scored by Lynda Kom Serto in the 93rd minute, sealing a dramatic finish. This win continues Manipur’s dominance in Indian women’s football, showcasing their consistent excellence and strong sporting culture.

The fifth edition of Khelo India University Games (KIUG 2025) will be held from November 24 to December 5, 2025 in seven cities of Rajasthan: Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, and Bharatpur. More than 5,000 athletes are expected to participate in 23 medal sports and one demonstration sport (Kho-Kho). New sports introduced this year include beach volleyball, canoeing & kayaking, and cycling. KIUG provides university athletes a platform for talent development and national recognition, supporting India’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. KIUG is part of the Khelo India Scheme, the flagship programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS).

Preetismita Bhoi, a young lifter from Dhenkanal, Odisha, won gold in the 44 kg category at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain. She lifted a total of 158 kg, setting Asian and World records in clean and jerk with 92 kg. The 16-year-old, who turns 17 in November, trains at the Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Earlier, she became the first Indian female lifter to win gold in the 40 kg category at the World Youth Championships 2024 in Peru, also setting a world record.

Recently, India emerged as the overall champion at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025 held at Birsa Munda Stadium, Ranchi. The event took place from October 24 to 26, 2025, with participation from all South Asian nations. India topped the medal tally with 20 gold and 58 total medals, followed by Sri Lanka with 16 gold and 40 total medals. Nepal stood third, while Bangladesh and Maldives followed; Bhutan finished without a medal.

India achieved its best-ever performance at the 2025 Asian Youth Games held in Manama, Bahrain, with a total of 48 medals- 13 gold, 18 silver, and 17 bronze. This surpassed India’s previous tallies from 2009 and 2013 editions. 222 Indian athletes participated in the event. The girls’ kabaddi team won India’s first gold medal by defeating Iran. Priteesmita Bhoi set a world youth record in the 44kg clean and jerk to win India’s first individual gold in weightlifting.
