India to setup Digital University

The Minister of Skill Development Shri Dharmendra Pradhan recently announced that India will soon set up Digital University. The main objective of establishing a Digital University is to reduce the cost of higher education. Also, the university will increase access to several skill programmes. The minister made the announcement at the SCO virtual summit.

Background

The Government of India is trying to empower the youth in the country. To achieve this, it has been creating several entry points in the education system. The focus is to uplift the youth by training them in the skills that the Indian industry requires. This will help India become self-reliant.

Significance

With Digital Universities, the youths can develop their skills at very fewer expenses. This will help India achieves the five pillars of Atma Nirbhar Bharat namely Economy, system, infrastructure, demand, and Vibrant Demography.

How will Digital Universities help India create Vibrant demography?

Vibrant demography means a population with high skills. Population explosion is of course not good for the country. But what if the increasing population is of high literacy levels? The good education system of India has increased the NRI working population and overall remittance. While China is now launching birth-boosting plans like 30-day paid leave to newly married, India is focusing on skilling the population! Within 10 years, the Skilled Indian population will take the economy to a developed zone.
