Susan Rice
Obama confident Susan Rice, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, has joined the White house as the National Security Advisor to the United Nation President. Rilce, who replaces Tom Donilon in her new capacity as NSA, would be top advisor to Obama on all national security and foreign policy matter.

Air Arabia, the first and largest low-cost carrier in West Asia and North Africa, has been awarded Best Low-Cost Airline, West Asia at the SkytraxWorld Airline Awards 2013. The award is in recognition of quality, low cost travel for airline passengers in the region.

Telecom commission of India approved the enhancement of the Foreign Direct Investment limit in the telecom sector from 74 percent to 100 percent. At present FDI limit in Telecom sector is 74 per cent where 49 per cent is through automatic route and rest with the approval of the foreign investment promotion board.

R Chandrashekar
Former Telecom secretary R Chandrashekar has been appointed as president of IT software service body NASSCOM. He will take charge after Som Mittal’s tenure ends in January 2014. Chandrashekar was the Chairman, Telecom Commission and Secretary, Department of Telecommunication till March 2012.

National Institute of Virology is one of the major institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research. It was established at Pune, Maharastra State in 1952 as a Virus Research Centre under the auspices of the ICMR and the Rockfeller foundation of USA.

Discus Throw
Vikas Gowda is a Discuss thrower and Shot putter. Gowda picked up India’s first gold in the Asian Athletics Championships with a throw of 64.90 meters. He had won silver each in the 2005 and 2011 editions. With this win, Gowda has booked a berth for next month’s World Championship in Moscow.

Danish Kaneria
Pakistan Cricket Board, imposed a life ban on spinner Danish Kaneria for indulging in spot-fixing during the 2009 English county season. The Board said Kaneria would be suspended for life from any involvement in the playing, organization or administration of Cricket in any form or manner under jurisdiction of PCB.
