Vigilance Awareness Week 2026
Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 is being observed across India from October 26 to November 1. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has announced the theme “Probity for Prosperity” (सत्यनिष्ठा से समृद्धि). The observance began at 11:00 am on October 26, when public servants took the Integrity Pledge in government departments, public sector enterprises and banks.
Central Vigilance Commission
The Central Vigilance Commission is India’s apex vigilance institution for central government organisations. It was established in 1964 by an executive resolution and received statutory status under the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003. The Act provides for a Central Vigilance Commissioner and up to two Vigilance Commissioners. The President appoints the Central Vigilance Commissioner and Vigilance Commissioners on the recommendation of a committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The CVC exercises superintendence over the vigilance administration of central government ministries, departments and specified public sector organisations.
2026 observance and preventive vigilance campaign
The President, Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on October 26, 2026. A three-month preventive vigilance campaign is running from August 17 to November 16, 2026. Its focus areas include disposal of pending complaints and cases, capacity building, digital initiatives and contract management. Participating organisations are conducting workshops, sensitisation programmes, debates, quizzes and digital awareness campaigns. Employees and their families are being encouraged to take the e-Integrity Pledge, which is available on the CVC website. Awareness Gram Sabhas are planned in rural and semi-urban areas to share information on combating corruption and accessing public complaint redressal mechanisms.
Activities and reporting requirements
Organisations participating in the week are required to submit reports on their observance to the CVC by November 30, 2026. The activities cover public institutions, public sector enterprises and banks, alongside community-level outreach through Awareness Gram Sabhas.
