Former CCI Chairman Dhanendra Kumar Dies in Delhi Fire

Dhanendra Kumar, former Chairman of the Competition Commission of India, died on 28 May 2026 after a fire at his residence in Hauz Khas Enclave, South Delhi. Fire Incident in Hauz Khas Enclave

The fire occurred late on 27 May 2026 in a three-storey house in Hauz Khas Enclave, South Delhi. Police received an emergency call at about 11:18 PM, and the blaze was brought under control by 12:20 AM with the help of residents, police personnel, and two fire tenders. Preliminary investigation linked the fire to the indoor unit of an air-conditioner in a room on the ground floor. Officials have not found any foul play or conspiracy angle in the case so far.

Medical Response and Casualties

Dhanendra Kumar was admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre around midnight after severe smoke inhalation and died at 7:50 AM on 28 May 2026. His son, Gourav, suffered smoke inhalation while trying to rescue him and remained under treatment in stable condition. Five people were present in the house at the time of the incident, including Kumar, his wife Manju, his son, and two domestic helps. All other occupants were rescued safely.
