Russia’s S8000 Banderol is a lightweight air-launched cruise missile that was officially acknowledged in a state media report on 12 July 2026. By 29 July 2026, it had completed testing and entered serial production, while its design continued to evolve from 2025 models.

Missile Type and Role

The S8000 Banderol is designed as a low-cost cruise missile for long-range strikes. It has been linked to attacks on stationary infrastructure, including ports, logistics hubs, and food storage facilities.

Launch Platforms and Deployment

The missile was first associated with launch from the Inokhodets, also called the Orion, unmanned aerial vehicle. By late July 2026, it was also being launched from Mi-28 attack helicopters and from suspected ground-based launchers in temporarily occupied Crimea. Images circulated in July 2026 showed a Banderol-like missile on a compact mobile ground launcher. Russia’s Defence Ministry and the manufacturer Kronstadt had not officially confirmed operational deployment or production quantities as of 3 August 2026.

Technical Features

The missile is powered by a commercially available Chinese Swiwin turbojet engine. It carries an OFBCh-150 high-explosive fragmentation warhead with about 49.5 kilograms of explosive material. Reported range figures vary between 350 and 400 kilometres in Ukrainian military intelligence assessments and up to 500 kilometres in some other accounts. The missile also uses foreign-made electronic components from the United States, Switzerland, Japan, China, and South Korea.
