Delhi-NCR Transport Unions Announce Three-Day Strike

Commercial transport unions in Delhi-NCR announced a three-day strike from May 21 to 23, 2026, over fare revision demands for taxis, auto-rickshaws, trucks, and goods vehicles. The unions linked their demands to rising prices of CNG, petrol, and diesel, and to disputes over commercial vehicle regulation in Delhi.

Fare Revision and Fuel Costs

The unions have demanded an immediate hike in taxi and auto fares. They have cited continuous increases in CNG, petrol, and diesel prices as a factor affecting the operating costs of commercial drivers. App-based cab companies such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido have been named by the unions in their objections to pricing practices. The unions have also submitted a formal representation to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on May 19, 2026.

Truck and Goods Vehicle Protest

Other transport unions in Delhi-NCR stated that the proposed strike for auto and taxi services has been put on hold. They said that the planned chakka jam from May 21 to 23, 2026, applies only to truck and goods vehicle operators. The truck and goods vehicle demands include withdrawal of the hike in the Environment Compensation Charge (ECC) on commercial vehicles entering Delhi. They have also sought rollback of the proposed ban on non-Delhi registered BS-IV commercial goods vehicles from November 1, 2026.
