Bharat Forge to Set Up Marine Gas Turbine Complex

Bharat Forge, through its Aerospace business, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Andhra Pradesh on 19 May 2026 to establish India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine repair, overhaul, and indigenous development complex in Visakhapatnam. The project will come up over about 80 acres within the Andhra Pradesh Defence Manufacturing Corridor and will be located near the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters.

Marine Gas Turbine Systems

Marine gas turbines are propulsion systems used in naval vessels and other marine platforms. They are designed for high power-to-weight ratio, compact size, and rapid acceleration, and they are used in several classes of warships and fast naval craft.

Project Phases and Facilities

The complex will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 will include a repair and overhaul facility with hot section restoration, component manufacturing, and a 72-hour turnaround for the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. Phase 2 will include India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine Development and Assembly Hall with a hot test cell for indigenous development and qualification.

The Andhra Pradesh Defence Manufacturing Corridor is one of the defence industrial corridors in India. Defence industrial corridors are designated zones for manufacturing, testing, and integration of defence equipment, and they are linked with public and private investment in aerospace and defence production.
