Odisha Secures ₹43,437 Crore Food Processing Proposals
Odisha received investment proposals worth ₹43,437 crore in the food processing sector on 7 August 2026 during the launch of Odisha Food Pro-2026 in New Delhi. The event was the first sector-specific investment roadshow organised outside Odisha, and it was held in collaboration with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).
Odisha Food Processing Sector
Food processing is an industrial activity that converts agricultural produce into edible or semi-processed products. In India, the sector includes fruits, vegetables, cereals, dairy, meat, fisheries, packaged foods, and beverages.
Investment Proposals and Employment Estimates
The Odisha government signed 27 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹41,748 crore on the inaugural day of the summit. These MoUs were projected to generate 35,252 employment opportunities. The state also received 12 Investment Intent Forms (IIFs) worth ₹1,689 crore, with an estimated 8,064 jobs.
The combined MoUs and IIFs were estimated to have the potential to generate 43,316 direct and indirect jobs in Odisha. The total investment proposals on the first day were therefore recorded at ₹43,437 crore.
Food Processing Infrastructure and Policy Features
Food processing investment in India usually depends on cold-chain systems, warehousing, quality certification, logistics, and market linkages. Integrated food parks, cluster-based processing units, and export-oriented facilities are common policy instruments used by state governments.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a five-pillar roadmap for the sector. The roadmap covered specialised food clusters, integrated cold-chain networks, food quality certification, MSME and women self-help group integration, and workforce skill development.
