Gujarat Approves De-Addiction Centres in District Hospitals

Gujarat has approved Rs 14.90 crore for setting up de-addiction centres in all 34 district hospitals in the state for the 2026-27 financial year. The project is part of the state’s Drug-Free Gujarat campaign and covers inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment services.

De-addiction Centre Model

Each de-addiction centre will have 15 beds and will provide scientific detoxification treatment, de-addiction therapy, counselling, mental healthcare, family counselling, and rehabilitation. The centres will function with multidisciplinary teams that include doctors, nurses, counsellors, and psychologists.

District Hospital Coverage in Gujarat

District hospitals are secondary-level public health institutions in India that provide specialist care at the district level. Gujarat has 34 district hospitals, and the new centres are planned for all of them to expand access to addiction treatment within the public health system.

Implementation and Monitoring

The expenditure has received administrative approval for the 2026-27 financial year. Equipment for the centres will be procured through the Government e-Marketplace portal, and the project will be subject to regular monitoring, social audits, and third-party verification.
