Guchhi is a rare and prized mushroom, which makes it an expensive delicacy. The cost of Guchhi per kg varies from ₹ 30,000 to ₹ 50,000, depending on its availability and demand. Recently, the Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment notified the MFP and NTFP rules, which included Guchhi. As per the new rules, local panchayats and rural development departments via self-help groups are now authorized to collect Guchhi. Gram panchayats have control over the collection of Guchhi.

Guchhi Habitats

Training is provided for forest-dwellers in Jammu Shivaliks in mushroom collection and processing techniques, as well as the market knowledge. Apart from the Himalayas, Guchhi is found near the banks of the Chenab in Akhnoor. Rain, lightning, and thunder are believed to be the three earthly elements responsible for causing Guchhi to sprout in the Himalayas.
