Mattu Gulla
Mattu Gulla is a Kerala’s local variety of brinjal. It was awarded the GI certificate by the Geographical Indication Registry (GIR) of the Union Government. The peasants staged a struggle to sustain their indigenous variety of Mattu Gulla when the Indian variety of brinjal was under threat from the BT in the country.

December 21, 2017 at 1:37 pmIt is not Kerala, It is south-west of Karnataka, Udupi District. A saint Sri Vadirajatirtha of Udupi Krishna Sode Vadiraja Matha invented this variety of Mattu Brinjal in 16th century.
