India Sends 70 Competitors to WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

India has sent its largest-ever contingent of 70 skilled competitors to the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, held from 22 to 27 September 2026. Fourteen women are part of Team India at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre, and India is competing in 63 of the 64 skill categories.

WorldSkills Competition

The WorldSkills Competition is an international vocational skills event held for young professionals and trainees. The 48th edition is taking place in Shanghai, which is hosting competitions across industrial, technical, and service skill areas.

India’s Participation at Shanghai 2026

India’s team includes 70 competitors across a wide range of trades and technologies. The contingent is competing in 63 skill categories, and 11 categories are making their India debut at this edition.

New Skill Categories for India

India is entering 11 new skill categories for the first time at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.

• Dental Prosthetics is one of the new categories in which India is competing for the first time.
• Digital Interactive Media Design is included among the debut skill areas.
• Intelligent Security Technology is part of India’s first-time entries.
• Landscape Gardening and Optoelectronic Technology are also new for India at this edition.
• Retail Sales, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Industrial Mechanics, Software Testing, Heavy Vehicle Technology, and Aircraft Maintenance complete the list of new categories.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the National Skill Development Corporation are leading India’s preparation and participation. Jindal Steel has joined as an official sponsor for the Indian contingent.
