Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign Launched

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign began across India on 17 September 2026 and will continue for one month until 17 October 2026. The campaign is jointly organised by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Department of Urban Development under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The 2026 theme is “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”.

Campaign Structure and Key Pillars

The campaign has five main pillars. These include transforming cleanliness target units, engaging youth through Swachh Paathshala, organising SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir for sanitation workers, strengthening Jan Bhagidari, and promoting Swachhata se Samriddhi through waste-to-wealth initiatives.

Major Dates and Activities

A nationwide collective Shramdaan titled “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” is scheduled for 1 October 2026. Special programmes are planned for 2 October 2026, which is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas and Gandhi Jayanti, and these include Special Gram Sabhas, awareness drives on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam tree plantation activities.

State-Level Launch and Participation Data

The Sikkim state-level launch took place at Ridge Park, Gangtok, on 17 September 2026. Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the event. The previous Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign saw participation from over 18 crore citizens, including 14 crore participants from rural areas.
