India Secures Deportation of Navpreet Singh from Türkiye

India secured the deportation of Navpreet Singh from Türkiye to India on 3 October 2026. He was accused in cases linked to drug trafficking and other crimes, and Indian agencies identified him as a narco-trafficking accused who had used a false identity.

Deportation and Identity Fraud

Navpreet Singh obtained Turkish citizenship using the fake identity of Navab Virk. He continued narcotics smuggling operations under this identity, including the trafficking of heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India. Indian agencies tracked him, unmasked his identity, and secured his deportation.

Narco-Trafficking and Drug Routes

Narco-trafficking refers to the illegal production, transport, and sale of narcotic drugs. Afghanistan has remained a major source area for opiates in South Asia, and heroin trafficking routes have often passed through Pakistan, Iran, and maritime or air channels into India.

Legal and Administrative Action

After his return to India, Navpreet Singh was immediately taken into custody. Extradition and deportation are two different legal processes, and deportation usually refers to the removal of a foreign national from a country under immigration or security laws.
