GeM Completes 10 Years with ₹20 Lakh Crore GMV

India’s Government e-Marketplace (GeM) completed 10 years of operations on 9 August 2026. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated on 7 August 2026 that GeM had facilitated a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of over ₹20 lakh crore through more than 3.78 crore orders.

Government e-Marketplace

GeM is an online public procurement platform for goods and services used by government buyers in India. It was launched in 2016 and functions as a digital marketplace for ministries, departments, public sector units, and other government organisations.

GMV Growth and Procurement Scale

GeM took more than eight years to reach its first ₹10 lakh crore in cumulative GMV. The next ₹10 lakh crore was achieved in less than two years. Annual GMV rose from ₹422 crore in FY 2016–17 to over ₹5 lakh crore in FY 2024–25 and FY 2025–26. The platform also recorded ₹1,47,888 crore in the first four months of FY 2026–27.

Seller and Buyer Base on GeM

Profile-completed sellers on GeM increased from 3,339 at inception to 25.45 lakh. Primary buyer organisations expanded from 1,707 to 1.37 lakh. Micro and Small Enterprises registered on the portal rose from 2,424 to 12.25 lakh and secured orders worth over ₹9.07 lakh crore, which formed 45.6% of cumulative GMV.

Women-led Enterprises and Startups

More than 2.24 lakh women-led MSEs executed over 50 lakh orders worth more than ₹99,147 crore. A total of 42,242 startups secured business worth over ₹65,633 crore through the platform since its launch.

An IIT Delhi study covering FY 2023–24 to FY 2025–26 estimated monetised benefits of ₹86,571.69 crore from price and process efficiencies. The same study placed the net social saving at ₹1,76,411.46 crore.
