MoU inked b/w India and Sri Lanka to set up 3- tier English Language Training System in Lanka

  • MoU inked in Colombo b/w India and Sri Lanka for setting up of a 3-tier English Language Training System in Sri Lanka
  • India will coach 40 Sri Lankan English Teachers in the first batch, who will be the master-trainers for teachers of the language, as part of the MoU
  • The teachers will tour to Hyderabad-based English and Foreign Languages University, on the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation scholarship
  • India will aid to set up 9 Centres for English language training – one in each of the provinces
  • High Commissioner of India Mr Ashok K Kantha in his address said that the MoU signed today will further develop assistance b/w India and Sri Lanka in English language training

3 Supreme Court judges sworn in

  • 3 judges, including a woman, were sworn in today as Supreme Court judges
  • Justices S.J.Mukhopadhaya, R.P.Desai and J.S.Khehar were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice S.H.Kapadia, taking the total strength of judges at the peak court to 29 from the present 26
  • The peak court has a authorized strength of 31 judges including the CJI, but at present it is having only 26 judges, out of which 4 are scheduled to retire by 15th October, 2011

Ad-hoc bonus to central govt employees announced by Government

  • Govt declared an ad-hoc bonus of up to Rs 3,500 to Group C and D Central Govt employees and personnel of the armed and Para military forces ahead of the festival season
  • Govt has certified fund of non-productivity linked bonus (ad-hoc bonus) equivalent to 30 days emoluments for the accounting year 2010-11 to the central government employees (Group C and D), The limit for bonus is Rs 3,500
  • The bonus will also be given to all non-gazetted employees in Group B, who are not covered by any productivity- linked bonus scheme

Humanitarian support to Africa nations to be provided by India

  • India to offer humanitarian support of 8 million US dollars to Somalia, Kenya and Djibouti in the African continent
  • These countries have been stricken with stern famine and drought
  • The aid to be rendered via the World Food Programme

 

I&B Ministry bags award on National Hindi Diwas

  • Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is amongst 57 institutions and individuals who bagged award on National Hindi Diwas
  • Awards conferred by the President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Vigyan Bhavan
  • The first prize was bagged by Labour Ministry, second prize by Law Ministry and third prize by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

“Dhhan Karay Neeti”: Paddy Purchase Policy announced by UP

  • “Dhan Ki Neeti”: Paddy purchase policy announced by the Uttar Pradesh Govt under centre’s price support scheme ( Mulya samarthan Yojana ) for the Kharif season 2011 -12
  • As per the paddy purchase policy, paddy of common grade will be procured by the procurement agencies at the rate of 1,080 rupees per quintal while paddy of Grade -A -category, will be procured at the minimum support price of one thousand one hundred and ten rupees per quintal (Rs 1,110 /per quintal)
  • Paddy will be purchased directly from the farmers

Cash reward of Rs 1.5 lakh to each Hockey Player declared by the Govt

  • Govt declared Rs 1.5 Lakh as a reward for each player of the National Hockey team that just won the Asian Champions trophy
