Bharat 6G Symposium Opens in New Delhi
The 3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium 2026 is being held from 7 to 9 October at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi. Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the symposium on 8 October. The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) organised the event alongside the India Mobile Congress 2026.
6G and the IMT-2030 Framework
6G is the name commonly used for the sixth generation of mobile communication systems. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) uses the term IMT-2030 for its framework for international mobile telecommunications beyond 5G. The ITU’s Recommendation M.2160-0, approved in November 2023, sets out the framework and overall objectives for IMT-2030. 6G research includes work on artificial-intelligence-native networks, spectrum use, network sustainability and communications technologies. The symposium’s programme covers global 6G vision, standards, trials, testbeds, industry applications and international cooperation.
Bharat 6G Alliance
The Bharat 6G Alliance brings together Indian stakeholders from industry, academia, research and government to develop a 6G ecosystem. Its work includes collaboration on research, development, standards and international engagement. The alliance organised the symposium with participation from policymakers, telecom operators, global technology alliances, industry leaders, academic institutions and research organisations.
International Cooperation and Symposium Outputs
At the 8 October inauguration, the Bharat 6G Alliance signed five Memoranda of Understanding with GSMA, one6G Association, GTI Alliance Ltd, 6G Industry Forum (6GIF) and VoICE. The alliance also released nine white papers prepared by its working groups. A joint report titled “Progress towards the 6G Principles of the New Delhi Declaration: Actions, Outcomes and Outlook – First Edition, October 2026” was released at the ceremony.
