Amit Shah inaugurates Barapullah flyover and three road projects in Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated four road infrastructure projects in Delhi on 29 September 2026 with a combined cost of ₹1,941 crore. The projects included the Barapullah Phase 3 elevated corridor, the Mukarba Chowk underpass, and foundation stones for the Modi Mill-Kalkaji flyover and the Savitri Cinema half-flyover.

Barapullah Phase 3 Elevated Corridor

The Barapullah Phase 3 elevated corridor has a revised cost of about ₹1,635 crore. It is designed to provide signal-free connectivity between Mayur Vihar Phase-1 and Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. The corridor links East Delhi and South Delhi and provides onward connectivity towards AIIMS.

The project was approved in 2014 and began in 2015. Its initial completion target was 2017, and it later faced multiple delays. The corridor is the first flyover corridor in India with a dedicated cycle track and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

Mukarba Chowk Underpass

The Mukarba Chowk underpass project includes three underpasses near the Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station on the Outer Ring Road. It is connected with traffic movement from NH-44 and is intended for smoother movement of heavy vehicles in North Delhi.

Mukarba Chowk is a major traffic junction in Delhi that connects the Outer Ring Road with routes towards North and North-West Delhi. The underpass works are part of road decongestion measures in the capital.

Road Infrastructure in Delhi

Flyovers, underpasses, and elevated corridors are common urban transport structures used to separate traffic streams at busy junctions. In Delhi, such projects are often built to reduce signal delays, improve junction capacity, and support movement on arterial roads.

The Barapullah corridor is part of the Barapullah Nallah alignment, which has been used for elevated road development in Delhi. The project connects residential and institutional zones across the Yamuna river corridor.
