India, China Hold 35th WMCC Border Talks

India and China held the 35th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) in Beijing on 27 May 2026. The Indian delegation was led by Sujit Ghosh, Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Chinese delegation was led by Hou Yanqi, Director General of the Boundary & Oceanic Affairs Department of China’s foreign ministry.

Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs

The WMCC is a diplomatic mechanism for border management between India and China. It was established to handle consultation, coordination, and communication on boundary-related matters.

Border Management and Delimitation

Delimitation refers to the drawing of a boundary line, while border management covers patrols, communication, and incident prevention along the Line of Actual Control. The talks in Beijing covered delimitation, border management, mechanism building, and cross-border cooperation.

Diplomatic and Military Exchanges

Both sides agreed to maintain regular diplomatic and military-level exchanges through existing mechanisms. India also pressed for an early meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism on Trans-border Rivers, which deals with river-related technical consultation between the two countries.
