Siddaramaiah Announces Decision to Step Down

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aged 77, announced on 28 May 2026 that he would step down from office during a breakfast meeting with Cabinet colleagues at his official residence in Bengaluru. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and the proposed transition was linked to the Congress power-sharing arrangement formed after the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.
