Vice President Launches India Valve Registry in Chennai

The Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, launched the India Valve Registry on 5 September 2026 at the India Valves 2026 conference in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The registry is a multicentre national database for secure and de-identified collection of real-world data on patient outcomes in heart valve interventions.

The India Valve Registry is designed to record clinical data from hospitals across India that perform valve interventions. It collects de-identified patient information, which is a standard method used in medical databases to protect personal identity while retaining clinical utility.

Advanced heart valve interventions have been performed in India since 2011, but no continuous national database existed before this launch. The registry is intended to document regional clinical variation, patient age groups, and long-term treatment outcomes.

India Valves 2026 Conference

India Valves 2026 began on 4 September 2026 and was the 9th edition of India’s national forum on structural heart disease and transcatheter heart valve therapies. Structural heart disease refers to defects or abnormalities in the heart’s valves, walls, chambers, or supporting structures.

Transcatheter heart valve therapy is a minimally invasive procedure in which a replacement valve is delivered through a catheter rather than open-heart surgery. Such procedures are used in conditions such as aortic valve disease and other valvular disorders.

Health Policy and Clinical Data

The Vice President stated that India must generate indigenous clinical evidence for evidence-based cardiac care. Evidence-based medicine uses clinical research, patient data, and standard treatment outcomes to guide medical decisions.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister K. G. Arunraj stated that hospitals performing valve interventions under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme will be encouraged to join the registry. The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme is a state health insurance programme in Tamil Nadu.
