Bihar Merges Vigilance Cadre with State Police
On 5 May 2026, the Bihar Cabinet approved the abolition of the Bihar Vigilance Investigation Cadre and its integration into the regular Bihar Police force. The Bihar Home Department issued the order for the restructuring, which covers Deputy Superintendents of Police, police inspectors, and sub-inspectors from the vigilance cadre.
Bihar Police Administration
The Bihar Police functions under the Bihar Police Act, 2007, which provides the legal framework for policing in the state. The vigilance investigation set-up was a separate cadre within the state police administration before its merger with the regular force.
Absorption of Officers
Deputy Superintendents of Police from the vigilance investigation cadre will be inducted into the Bihar Police Service. Police inspectors and sub-inspectors from the 2014 and 2023 batches will also be absorbed into equivalent ranks in the Bihar Police.
Seniority and Service Rules
Service continuity of the absorbed officers will remain protected after the merger. For seniority purposes, the officers will be placed immediately after the last-ranked officers of their respective batches in the Bihar Police.
