US Tests Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile

The United States military conducted a successful test launch of its Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) off the coast of California. The launch was carried out by the Air Force Global Strike Command to evaluate the operational performance and reliability of the missile system. The Minuteman III is capable of travelling around 6,000 miles at speeds exceeding 15,000 miles per hour. It can carry nuclear warheads with destructive power significantly greater than the atomic bomb used during the Second World War. Currently, about 400 Minuteman III missiles are deployed across US Air Force bases in Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming as part of the country’s land-based nuclear deterrent.
