UPSC Marks Centenary Celebrations with Manthan

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) held its centenary celebrations titled Manthan on 30 September 2026 and 1 October 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Commission was established in 1926, and the centenary programme marked 100 years of its existence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the event on 1 October 2026.

UPSC Centenary and Commemorative Releases

The centenary celebrations concluded a year-long programme that began on 1 October 2025. During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a UPSC Centenary Commemorative Coin, a Commemorative Stamp, and a book titled 100 Landmark Judgements – Shaping the Policies of UPSC and Public Service Commissions in India.

Manthan and Civil Services Reform

The centenary deliberations under Manthan focused on future-ready civil services, innovation in public administration, and institutional values. UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar identified three guiding principles for the Commission’s future vision: Trust, Transparency, and Technology. The discussions included Chairmen and Members of State Public Service Commissions, senior Government of India officers, academicians, and UPSC officials.

Key Themes in the Deliberations

The first session of the centenary deliberations was held on the theme Role of Civil Services in Viksit Bharat under the leadership of UPSC member Suman Sharma. Participants included Chief of Defence Staff General N S Raja Subramani, Member of Parliament Harsh Vardhan Shringla, and Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Sanjay Shrinet.

The UPSC introduced computers in 1978 as part of its technology adoption. Recent administrative reforms include the Universal Registration Number introduced in 2025 and an expanded Candidate Helpdesk.
