Andhra Pradesh to Commission First Clean Energy Project

Andhra Pradesh to Commission First Clean Energy Project

Andhra Pradesh is set to commission its first project under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 in the Rayalaseema region on 22 May 2026. The project is a 600 MW solar power plant developed by SAEL Industries with an investment of ₹3,000 crore.

Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024

The Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 aims to attract investments of about ₹10 lakh crore and add more than 160 GW of renewable energy capacity. The policy covers solar power, wind power, pumped storage, and manufacturing linked to the renewable energy sector.

Major Projects and Investments

ReNew Energy Global Plc is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a ₹5,400 crore solar manufacturing facility in Anakapalli district on 23 April 2026. The facility is planned as a 6 GW solar ingot and wafer unit. The state government approved the allocation of the 2,250 MW Gandikota-2 pumped storage project in YSR Kadapa district to Adani Hydro Energy Eleven Ltd. on 20 May 2026. The project has a completion timeline of 72 months.

Power Planning Framework

Andhra Pradesh introduced the Resource Adequacy Regulations 2026 in March 2026. These regulations relate to long-term power planning and generation capacity planning in a power system with rising renewable energy share.

Important Facts for Exams

  • Solar power plants convert sunlight into electricity through photovoltaic cells or solar thermal systems.
  • Pumped storage projects store energy by moving water between two reservoirs at different elevations.
  • Andhra Pradesh has a long coastline and high solar potential in several districts, including Rayalaseema.
  • Renewable energy capacity is measured in gigawatts, where 1 GW equals 1,000 MW.

Exam Notes

The Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 is linked to renewable energy generation, manufacturing, and storage infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. The first commissioning under the policy is a 600 MW solar project in Rayalaseema.
