UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK

UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) launched the Aadhaar Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) and the Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox on 9 September 2026 at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. The SDK is designed for integration into native Android and iOS applications for Aadhaar-based eKYC and onboarding.

Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK

The Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK enables face authentication within mobile applications without requiring users to move to a separate app. It includes AI and machine learning-based liveness detection, anti-spoofing checks, encryption protocols, and compatibility with standard consumer smartphones.

Face authentication is a biometric method that uses facial features for identity verification. In Aadhaar systems, biometric authentication can also use fingerprints, iris scans, and face images, depending on the use case and device support.

Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox

The Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox is a secure developer environment for banks and fintech companies. It allows testing of user flows and failure scenarios without external biometric hardware.

Sandbox environments are used in digital systems to test software functions in a controlled setting before deployment. In financial technology, such environments are commonly used for onboarding, eKYC, and authentication workflow testing.

Digital Onboarding and Infrastructure

UIDAI also released the “Playbook on Ease of Onboarding” at the Jio World Centre. The document is intended for use across financial sectors that use Aadhaar-based digital onboarding.

UIDAI stated that partner institutions can process Aadhaar face authentications locally on their own servers. Local processing is a server-side method used in digital infrastructure to reduce dependence on external systems during authentication.
