Saushrutam 2026 and Ayurvedic Surgery

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated Saushrutam 2026 on 15 July 2026 at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi. The three-day international seminar on Ayurvedic surgery was organised by the Ministry of Ayush on Sushruta Jayanti and included a pre-conference workshop on 14 July 2026.

Saushrutam 2026 was held from 15 to 17 July 2026 as an international seminar on Ayurvedic surgery. The event focused on evidence-based Ayurveda, surgical practice, and collaboration among practitioners and institutions.

Ayurvedic Surgery and Sushruta

Ayurvedic surgery is linked with the classical medical tradition associated with Sushruta, who is known in Indian medical history for surgical knowledge in the Sushruta Samhita. Sushruta Jayanti is observed in honour of Sushruta and is used for academic and institutional programmes related to Ayurveda.

Institutional and Clinical Developments

During the event, an AI-powered 3 Tesla MRI facility was inaugurated at the AIIA. President Murmu also released a study by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine on the career paths of women graduates in Ayurveda. Union Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav stated that specially trained postgraduate students are permitted to perform 58 types of surgeries, including 39 general surgeries and 19 eye, ENT, and dental surgeries. In June 2026, Uttar Pradesh AYUSH Minister Dayashankar Mishra announced the provision of modern equipment and advanced resources in Ayurveda hospitals after Sushrut Kon-2026 in Varanasi.
