Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that the India-England Test series will now be called the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. This honors Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, who played 200 Tests before retiring in 2013, and England’s James Anderson, who retired in July 2024 after 188 Tests. Earlier, the series in England was known as the Pataudi Trophy and in India as the Anthony de Mello Trophy. This renaming follows a global trend like the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy for England–New Zealand Tests and Border-Gavaskar Trophy for India–Australia Tests.

Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame 2025, becoming the 11th Indian to receive this prestigious global honour. He is among seven cricketing legends, including two women players, selected in the 2025 inductee list. The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame recognises legendary players for their historic contributions to cricket across generations and countries. It was launched on January 2, 2009 by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in partnership with the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA).

Recently, the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championship 2025 was held in Vung Tau, Vietnam, from June 18 to 21, where Indian wrestlers delivered an outstanding performance. On the final day, India won six medals in men’s freestyle, with five golds secured by Nikhil, Sujeet, Jaideep, Chander Mohan, and Sachin. Indian women wrestlers also won the team title by securing medals in all 10 categories, including four gold and five silver. Gold medalists included Priyanshi Prajapat (50 kg), Reena (55 kg), Shrishti (68 kg), and Priya (76 kg).

Indian shuttlers recently delivered their best-ever performance by winning 27 medals at the Asian Para-Badminton Championship 2025 held in Thailand from 17th to 22nd June. The medal tally includes four gold, 10 silver, and 13 bronze medals, marking India’s highest total in the history of this championship. Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murugesan won gold with a straight-sets victory over Ruthick Raghupathi and Manasi Joshi.

Recently, Karnataka emerged as the top performer at the 78th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2025 in Bhubaneswar, winning 41 medals, including 16 gold ,followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Shoan Ganguly of Karnataka broke the previous National Record of 4 minutes 25.62 seconds set by Aryan Nehra in 2023 and improved the Indian best in the 200 metre Individual Medley too. These achievements highlight Karnataka’s dominance and India’s rising swimming standards.

Recently, it was announced that the first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held at Dal Lake in Srinagar from 21st to 23rd August. It is part of the growing Khelo India sports calendar after the first Khelo India Beach Games in Diu in May. The festival will feature five sports: kayaking and canoeing, rowing, water skiing, shikara race, and dragon boat. The event aims to broaden sports opportunities across India and make Khelo India more inclusive. This will be the fifth Khelo India event in 2025 after Winter Games, Para Games, Youth Games, and Beach Games.

At the Asian Para-Archery Championships in Beijing, Paralympic gold medallist Harvinder Singh won individual gold in recurve men’s open. He defeated Hanreuchai Netsiri of Thailand with a score of 7-1 in the final. This marks Harvinder’s first individual gold at the Asian Para-Archery Championships after a six-year wait. The global event witnessed participation from police and fire personnel representing 63 countries. India ranked third in the overall medal tally with a total of 560 medals. Uttar Pradesh Police athletes secured 95 medals, including 45 gold, 34 silver, and 16 bronze. The medals were won in events like athletics, wrestling, shooting, weightlifting, and swimming.
