The Archery Premier League (APL) won the Emerging Professional Sports Event of the Year at the India Sports Awards 2025 held during FICCI TURF 2025 Global Sports Summit in New Delhi. Archery Premier League (APL) is organised by the Archery Association of India (AAI) and is the world’s first professional archery league. Its first season was held at Yamuna Sports Complex, New Delhi, from 2 to 12 October 2025. It featured Indian and international men and women archers in Recurve and Compound events. The league follows a franchise-based, gender-balanced, broadcast-friendly format to make archery a mainstream spectator sport.

Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi won the Jerusalem Masters 2025 title. He defeated former world champion Viswanathan Anand in an all-Indian final. The victory came through a blitz tie-break after their initial rapid games ended in a draw. In the semifinals, Arjun defeated Russian Grandmaster Peter Svidler. Anand reached the final by overcoming reigning World Blitz Champion Ian Nepomniachtchi.

India completed the FEI Asian Equestrian Championships 2025 in Pattaya, Thailand, with a historic five-medal haul. Ashish Limaye won individual gold in eventing. Limaye, along with Shashank Singh Kataria and Shashank Kanmuri, secured team silver in eventing. In dressage, Shruti Vora won three silver medals. The championships were organised by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) and featured top riders across multiple disciplines. This was the second edition of the continental meet; India did not participate in 2019.

Jammu and Kashmir is hosting its first-ever International Indian Style Wrestling (Dangal) event along with the Rustam-e-Jammu Kashmir Title 2025. The event is taking place at the Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, and started on December 20, 2025. More than 100 national and international wrestling stars are participating in the competition. Wrestlers will compete for the Rustam-e-Jammu Kashmir Title 2025. This marks a major milestone in promoting traditional Indian wrestling in the region.

The first-ever Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) logo, theme song, and mascot were unveiled at Late B. R. Yadav Sports Stadium, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The Games are scheduled from 14 February 2026. Chhattisgarh is the first state to host these Games. Morveer is the official mascot of the inaugural edition. The mascot ‘Morveer’ combines ‘Mor’ (mine/our own) and ‘Veer’ (courage/valour), symbolising tribal pride and spirit. The Games are organised jointly by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India, Indian Olympic Association, National Sports Federations, and Chhattisgarh state committee.

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on 14-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his outstanding achievements in domestic and Under-19 cricket. The awards recognise excellence in Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture, and Science & Technology. Vaibhav recently scored 190 off 84 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming the youngest centurion in List A history and breaking AB de Villiers’ fastest 150 record, with 15 sixes, the most by any Indian in 50-over cricket. He scored 108 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy*, becoming the youngest T20 centurion at 14 years 250 days.

Surya Charishma Tamiri won the Women’s Singles title at the 87th Senior National Badminton Championships in Vijayawada, defeating Tanvi Patri 17-21, 21-12, 21-14. Rithvik Sanjeevi S clinched the Men’s Singles title by beating Bharat Raghav in straight games, 21-16, 22-20. In Men’s Doubles, A. Hariharan and Ruban Kumar defeated Mithilesh Krishnan and Prejan 24-22, 21-17 to win the championship. Former champions Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat won the Women’s Doubles title, beating Priya Devi Konjengban and Shruti Mishra 21-14, 21-18. Sathwik Reddy K and Radhika Sharma won the Mixed Doubles title with a 21-9, 21-15 victory over Ashith Surya and Amrutha P.

Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy won bronze medal at the 2025 FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship in Doha. Arjun Erigaisi scored 9.5 points in the open section, finishing just behind world champion Magnus Carlsen. He became the second Indian male, after Viswanathan Anand, to podium at a World Rapid Championship. In the women’s section, Koneru Humpy scored 8.5 points, tied with Zhu Jiner (China) and Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia). Humpy has previously won gold at the World Rapid Championship in 2019 and 2024.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 72nd National Volleyball Tournament via video conferencing. The inaugural ceremony took place at Dr. Sampoorna­nand Sports Stadium in Varanasi. The tournament takes place from January 4 to January 11, 2026. More than 1,000 players are participating across 58 teams representing various states and institutions. The event aims to showcase high-level competition, sportsmanship, and emerging talent in Indian volleyball. Hosting the tournament in Varanasi highlights the city’s growing sports infrastructure and focus on athletic development. T
