The sixth edition of Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2026 was inaugurated on 20 January 2026 by Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta. It was concluded on 26 January. Indian Army team won the men’s ice hockey final, defeating Chandigarh with a last-minute goal. The Army retained its title in men’s ice hockey. Haryana won the overall team championship of the Ladakh phase by securing four gold medals with 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals. Ladakh finished second with 2 Gold, 5 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals. Maharashtra secured third place with 2 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals.

Haryana Thunders won the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) 2026 title after defeating Delhi Dangal Warriors 5-4 in a thrilling final at Noida Indoor Stadium. Scores were tied 4-4 after eight bouts; the final women’s 62kg match decided the championship. Paris Olympic silver medallist Iryna Koliadenko secured technical superiority to clinch victory for Haryana Thunders.

The 6th Badminton Asia Team Championships began on 3 February 2026 in Qingdao, China, with men’s and women’s national teams from Asia. India’s women are defending their title without two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who withdrew from the tournament. Women’s team is in Group Y with fourth seeds Thailand and Myanmar, featuring Tanvi Sharma, Unnati Hooda, Malvika Bansod, and doubles pair Treesa Jolly–Gayatri Gopichand. Men’s team is in Group C with fourth seeds Japan and Singapore, comprising Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy–Chirag Shetty.

Indian teenage squash player Anahat Singh became the youngest Asian to enter the PSA World Top 20, breaking Nicol David’s record. She achieved this after winning her first PSA Bronze-level title at the Washington Fire Open. In the tournament, she defeated world number 17 in the quarterfinal, world number 23 in the semifinal, and world number 10 Georgina Kennedy in the final (12-10, 11-5, 11-7).

Notes:
India will host the Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship 2027 in Delhi, a historic first for Indian shooting. The championship will offer eight Olympic quota places for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. These eight quotas will be in addition to 12 quota places from the World Cup Shooting event. The World Cup (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun) will be held in Delhi from 21 to 30 April 2027. Hosting rights were confirmed by the Asian Shooting Confederation to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

India defeated Bangladesh 4–0 to win the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-19 Women’s Championship. The final was played at Pokhara Rangasala Stadium in Nepal. Captain Julan Nongmaithem scored the opening goal for India. Elizabeth Lakra, Pearl Fernandes, and substitute Anwita Raghuraman added the remaining goals. India fielded its Under-17 women’s national team to prepare for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup later this year.

Notes:
Services won the 79th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy. The final was played at Dhakuakhana Stadium in Assam. Services defeated Kerala by 1–0 in a closely fought match. The winning goal was scored in the 109th minute of extra time. Striker Abhishek Pawar scored from a cross delivered by Shubham Rana. This victory marked Services’ eighth Santosh Trophy title. Services had also defeated Kerala in the 2023–24 season final.

Notes:
The Indian Army defended its team championship title at the 6th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, winning a total of nine gold medals, including eight in the Gulmarg leg. Himachal Pradesh finished as runners-up after securing four gold medals on the final day of competition. The closing ceremony of KIWG 2026 was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and managed by the Sports Authority of India at the Golf Course in Gulmarg. The first leg of the Games was held in Ladakh from January 20–26, 2026.

Notes:
Jammu and Kashmir cricket team won its maiden Ranji Trophy title by defeating Karnataka cricket team at KSCA Rajnagar Stadium. J&K scored 584 in the first innings, while Karnataka managed 293. With this win, J&K joined teams like Vidarbha, Saurashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh in recent title winners, showing wider growth of Indian domestic cricket.

Notes:
Shailesh Kumar won gold medal in men’s high jump T63 at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, New Delhi. He achieved a best jump of 1.84 m, below his personal best of 1.91 m, but was satisfied as it was the season opener. Shailesh hails from Bihar and targets the Asian Para Games, focusing his training program on that event. At the 2025 World Championships, Shailesh attempted 1.94 m thrice, exceeding the championship record but missing the world record.
