Fifteen-year-old Indian table tennis player Divyanshi Bhowmick created history by winning the World Table Tennis (WTT) Feeder women’s singles title at Prishtina in Kosovo. She became the youngest Indian ever to win a WTT Feeder women’s singles title. Divyanshi defeated Yeh Yi-Tian of Chinese Taipei in the final with a scoreline of 8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7. Divyanshi was ranked World No. 211, while her opponent was ranked No. 38 in the world rankings. According to the Table Tennis Federation of India, she is the second-youngest player globally to win a WTT Feeder women’s title after Japan’s Miwa Harimoto.

Legendary Indian shot putter Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, popularly known as Baba Dhaliwal, passed away recently at the age of 67. He was a 10-time national shot put champion, dominating the event from 1981 to 1992. Dhaliwal won a bronze medal at the 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi.
He also secured gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Asian Athletics Championships. In 1986, he set an Asian record of 18.71 metres in shot put. He received the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award (1983) and the prestigious Arjuna Award (1987).

R Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian to win the Norway Chess title. He secured the title in Oslo with a final-round victory over Vincent Keymer. Praggnanandhaa finished with 18 points to clinch the championship. The 20-year-old Chennai Grandmaster achieved a feat that had eluded Viswanathan Anand and D Gukesh. During the tournament, he recorded two classical wins over Magnus Carlsen.

South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship 2026 was won by India after defeating Bangladesh 3–1 in the final. The final was played in Madgaon. India won the title for a record sixth time and lifted the trophy after a gap of seven years. Goals for India were scored by Pyari Xaxa, Sanfida, and Linda Kom. Bangladesh’s goal was scored by Ritu Porna Chakma.

India Men’s Under-18 Hockey Team won the Men’s U-18 Asia Cup 2026 title by defeating Japan 4-1 in the final at Kakamigahara, Japan. India lifted the U-18 Asia Cup title for the third time. Ashish Purti scored a hat-trick, while captain Ketan Kushwaha added one goal. The India Women’s Under-18 Hockey Team secured the bronze medal after defeating South Korea 3-0.

Tennis player Alexander Zverev won his first Grand Slam title by winning the French Open 2026. In the final at Roland Garros, he defeated Flavio Cobolli in a five-set match. The victory ended his long wait for a major title after runner-up finishes at the US Open 2020, French Open 2024, and Australian Open 2025. He became the first German man to win the French Open since Henner Henkel in 1937. He is also the first German man to win a Grand Slam title since Boris Becker’s Australian Open victory in 1996.

The inaugural World Yogasana Championship 2026 was held at EKA Arena, Ahmedabad from 4–8 June 2026. India finished 1st in the medal tally with 114 medals, including 102 gold medals. The championship featured 522 athletes from 79 countries. Japan finished second, while Argentina secured third place. The event was organized by Yogasana Bharat in association with World Yogasana and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

At the Asian Relays Championships (2nd edition) held in Shaoxing, China, the Indian women’s 4×100m relay team won the gold medal with a season-best timing of 43.85 seconds. The winning quartet included Srabani Nanda, S.S. Sneha, Sudeshna Shivankar, and Tamanna. In the mixed 4×400m relay, India secured the silver medal with a timing of 3:17.06 seconds. The team members were Theerthesh Shetty, M.R. Poovamma, Bharath Sridhar, and Neeru Pathak. India had a successful medal haul across relay events, showcasing depth in sprint and mixed relay categories.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the Indian men’s volleyball team for winning India’s first-ever medal at the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Volleyball Cup. India won the bronze medal after defeating Bahrain 3–1 in the third-place playoff, marking its best-ever performance in the tournament. India hosted the AVC Men’s Volleyball Cup for the first time in 2026. The Indian team was captained by Jerome Vinith Charles and coached by Dragan Mihailović.
