Madhav Gopal Kamath, 14, won the 2025 World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC), becoming the first Indian to win a major global Scrabble title. The tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with 218 under-18 players from 18 countries. Madhav, the reigning national champion, won 21 out of 24 rounds and clinched the title in the penultimate round. Suyash Manchali, 15, from Bengaluru, placed fifth with 17 wins.

India defeated Oman to secure third place and win the bronze medal in the CAFA (Central Asian Football Association) Nations Cup 2025. The match was held at Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan. The game ended 1-1 in regulation time after Udanta Singh scored the equaliser for India. In the penalty shoot-out, Oman missed their first two attempts. Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved the final penalty, giving India a 3-2 victory. This was the first-ever win for India against Oman in an international football match. The victory marked a historic and memorable finish to India’s CAFA 2025 campaign. Uzbekistan won the gold medal and Iran won the silver.

Recently, Indian skater Anandkumar Velkumar won India’s first-ever gold medal at the Speed Skating World Championships 2025 in China. He won the senior men’s 1,000m sprint with a time of 1:24.924. Earlier, he secured bronze in the 500m sprint (43.072s), marking India’s first senior world championship medal at the same event. Junior skater Krish Sharma also won gold in the 1,000m sprint category. The championship began on September 13, 2025, in China, and will continue until September 21, 2025.

Central Zone won the Duleep Trophy 2025 after 11 years by defeating South Zone by six wickets in Bengaluru. They chased a modest target of 65 runs on a tricky fifth-day pitch. South Zone fought hard with a strong 426-run second innings, but could not stop Central. This was Central Zone’s seventh Duleep Trophy title. Rajat Patidar’s captaincy shined again, as he earlier led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their first IPL trophy in 18 years in June 2025. The 2025–26 Duleep Trophy was the 62nd edition of India’s domestic first-class cricket tournament. The tournament was held from 28 August to 15 September 2025.

From September 27 to October 5, 2025, New Delhi is hosting the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time. The venue is Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with over 1,000 athletes from 100+ nations. This marks India’s debut as host and one of the largest para-sport events in the country. The Championships are the biggest para-athletics competition after the Paralympic Games. Events include sprints, relays, long-distance races, jumps, throws, and other track and field disciplines. India’s medal tally has improved from 2 silvers at Doha 2015 to 17 medals at Kobe 2024.

On 28 September 2025, India won the Asia Cricket Cup 2025 in the Men’s T20 format against Pakistan. This is India’s second Asia Cup T20 title after 2016. Overall, India has now won the Asia Cup 9 times in the 17th edition of the tournament. Tilak Varma played a match-winning unbeaten 69 runs, rebuilding the innings under intense pressure.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) launched the Promise to Children digital campaign during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The campaign urges cricket fans, players, and audiences to commit to equal opportunities for all children, especially the most vulnerable. It focuses on children’s rights, including quality education, healthcare, nutrition, safe water, sanitation, and protection from violence. It aims to engage the cricket community, from coaches and players to fans, to improve children’s lives. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Brazil finished first in the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 held in New Delhi, improving on its 2024 second-place finish. China secured second position, while Iran stood third in the overall medal tally. Host India achieved its best-ever performance, finishing 10th with 22 medals, including 6 gold. The event, hosted at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, saw participation from over 2200 athletes representing 100+ countries across 186 events. India became the fourth Asian nation after Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Japan to host this championship. The event marked a new milestone for India’s global sporting capability and para athletics growth.

Star Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam made history by becoming the first Indian woman compound archer to win a medal at the Archery World Cup Final. She clinched the bronze medal in Nanjing, China by defeating second seed Ella Gibson of Great Britain 150-145. Jyothi shot a perfect 15 tens across five ends. She won her quarterfinal 143-140 against Alexis Ruiz of USA, then lost narrowly 143-145 to world number one Andrea Becerra of Mexico in the semifinal. This medal marks India’s first-ever women’s compound medal at the season-ending World Cup Final. Another Indian archer, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, lost 142-145 in the first round.

The 4th South Asian (SAAF) Athletics Championship 2025 will be held from 24th to 26th October at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The official jersey of the championship was unveiled in Ranchi ahead of the event. The focus is on showcasing Jharkhand’s hospitality and organisational excellence at an international level. Athletes from South Asian nations have already begun arriving in Ranchi for the championship.
