Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup, where Argentina won the trophy. The 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with additional matches in three South American countries. FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the decision during a virtual extraordinary Congress. This marks a significant moment for the Middle East and global football.

The Indian women’s junior hockey team won the 10th Women’s Hockey Junior Asia Cup by defeating China 3-2 in the penalty shootout in Muscat, Oman, on December 15, 2024. India successfully defended their title, having also won the previous edition in 2023. The tournament, held from December 7 to 15, 2024, is for players under 21 and organized by the Asian Hockey Federation. The top five teams—India, China, Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia—qualified for the 2025 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Women’s Junior World Cup in Chile. The first Women’s Junior Asia Cup was held in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and won by South Korea.

The 4th Asian Roll Ball Championship was held in Goa, India from December 16–19, 2024. The event took place at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Margao.  The championship was a collaboration between the Roll Ball Federation of India and the Goa Roll Ball Association. It was supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India.  The championship was a celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and cultural exchange. It was also a significant step in promoting the sport of roll ball, which is gaining popularity globally.

Shahu Tushar Mane won gold in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event at the National Shooting Championship, securing his first senior national title. Mane, representing Railways, triumphed in the 24-shot final by a narrow margin, defeating Telangana’s Dhanush Srikanth, who took the silver medal. Himanshu from Haryana won gold in the youth category, while Madhya Pradesh’s Yash Pandey and West Bengal’s Abhiav Shaw won silver and bronze, respectively.

Karnataka’s M. Raghu and Haryana’s Devika Sihag won the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, at the 86th Senior National Badminton Championships 2024. The tournament was organized by the Badminton Association of India and hosted by the Karnataka Badminton Association in Bengaluru from December 20 to 24, 2024. In the men’s singles final, M. Raghu defeated former champion Mithun Manjunath of Karnataka with a score of 14-21, 21-14, 24-22, claiming his first senior national championship title.

Kerala won their first Senior National Men’s Handball Championship title with a 34-31 victory over Chandigarh. Kerala reached the final after a close semi-final win against Services, 23-21. Chandigarh advanced to the final by defeating Indian Railways 32-30. Kerala’s Devendar was named ‘Best Player of the Championship,’ Rahul won ‘Best Goalkeeper,’ and Sujith was honored as ‘Best Left Wing Player.’ Services and Indian Railways shared third place in the tournament.

The Indian men’s and women’s teams won the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup 2025 titles at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The men’s team defeated Nepal 54-36, while the women’s team beat Nepal 78-40 in their respective finals. The tournament, backed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), featured 20 men’s and 19 women’s teams. Both finals showcased India’s dominance, with strong attacking and defensive performances.

The India Open 2025 badminton tournament concluded in New Delhi with outstanding performances. Viktor Axelsen of Denmark won his third India Open men’s singles title, defeating Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong China 21-16, 21-8. Axelsen previously won the India Open in 2017 and 2019. An Se-young of South Korea dominated the women’s singles final, defeating Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-12, 21-9 in just 39 minutes. Both champions are Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalists, showcasing their world-class talent.

Jasprit Bumrah won the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024. He also won the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 for taking 71 wickets in 13 matches. He became the fifth Indian to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Award after Dravid, Tendulkar, Ashwin, and Kohli.
