Himachal Pradesh will host the 17th National River Rafting Championship from March 20 to 25 at the Piridi Rafting Center, Kullu. The event is being organized by The Indian Rafting Foundation with the Himachal Pradesh Rafting Association, under the World Rafting Federation. A preparatory meeting was held in Bilaspur. Around 18 teams from different states will compete in Rafting Sprint, Slalom, RX, and Down River Race across Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed categories.

Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo set a new world half-marathon record in Barcelona. He finished the race in 56 minutes and 42 seconds, reclaiming his 2021 title. Kiplimo broke the previous record by 48 seconds, which was set by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha in November 2024. This marks the greatest single improvement in the men’s world half-marathon record.

Manu Bhaker won the 2024 BBC Indian Sportwomen of the Year award. She is a double Olympic medalist shooter. In 2020, she won the BBC Emerging Athlete of the Year award. The BBC Indian Sportwomen of the Year award was started in 2019 to honor top Indian sportswomen. Nominees are chosen by Indian sports journalists and experts, and winners are selected through public voting.

Dalibor Svrcina of Czechia won the the men’s singles title in the Maharashtra Open Tennis Tournament 2025, defeating Brandon Holt of the USA. The final was held at Mahalunge Balewadi Stadium in Pune on 23 February 2025. The tournament, an ATP 100 Challenger event, took place from 17-23 February with a prize pool of $160,000.

Shaurya Bhattacharya won the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) Rs. 1 crore Chhattisgarh Open golf championship at Fairway Golf and Lake Resort, Naya Raipur. He secured victory with a final round of six-under 63, finishing with a 27-under 249. The 22-year-old from Chandigarh had a five-shot lead overnight with earlier scores of 64, 61, and 61. This is his second professional title, following his maiden win in his rookie season last year.

CM Mohan Yadav inaugurated the 42nd National Senior Rowing Championship in Bhopal’s Upper Lake. More than 500 competitors from across India are participating in the event, which runs until March 7, 2025. 14 events are featured, including Para Single Scull categories for men and women. Sports complexes will be developed in every assembly constituency to boost sports infrastructure.

Krishna Jayasankar, a 22-year-old Indian athlete studying in Texas, set a new Indian indoor shot put record. She achieved a throw of 16.03 metres at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championship in Albuquerque. This broke the previous Indian indoor record of 15.54m, set by Poornarao Rane. Krishna won the bronze medal, securing her spot in the last round. She overtook Colorado State’s Makayla Long, who had a 15.98m throw, pushing her to fourth place.

The Indian women’s Kabaddi team won their fifth Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship title. They defeated Iran 32-25 in the final held in Tehran on 8th March 2025. The 6th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025 took place in Tehran from 6th to 8th March 2025. Iran hosted the tournament for the third time, previously in 2007 and 2017.

Indian Grandmaster Pranav Venkatesh, aged 18, won the FIDE World Junior Chess Championship 2025 on March 7, 2025, in Montenegro. He became the fourth Indian to win this prestigious title. He follows Viswanathan Anand, Pentala Harikrishna, and Abhijeet Gupta in achieving this feat. This victory marks a historic moment in Indian chess.
