From September 28 to October 11, 2025, Ahmedabad is hosting the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship 2025 at Veer Savarkar Sports Complex. This is the first time the championship is held in India. The event is organized by Asia Aquatics and the Swimming Federation of India with support from the Sports Authority of Gujarat. More than 900 athletes from 29 countries will compete in swimming, diving, artistic swimming, and water polo. The championship serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Games.

Grandmaster (GM) Iniyan P of Tamil Nadu won the 62nd National Chess Championship and a cash prize of ₹6 lakh. International Master (IM) H Goutham Krishna, 15, from Kerala secured second place with ₹5 lakh, earning widespread admiration. Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran, representing the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), finished third with ₹4 lakh. The championship was held at Vignan’s University and organised by the Andhra Chess Association under the All India Chess Federation (AICF). The event was supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP).

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won silver medal in the women’s 48 kg category at the World Championships in Førde, Norway. She lifted a total of 199 kg with 84 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk. This was her first World Championship since 2022. It was also her second competition after finishing fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The gold medal went to Ri Song-gum of Korea, who lifted 213 kg. The achievement highlights Chanu’s comeback at the global stage.

The BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Junior Championships 2025 have begun in Guwahati, Assam, marking their return to India after 17 years. The event runs from October 6 to 19 and includes two parts — the Suhandinata Cup (mixed team event) and the Eye-Level Cup (individual events). A total of 36 teams are competing, with India placed in Group H alongside Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India has won 11 individual medals in tournament history, with its best performance in 2008 in Pune. With this edition, India becomes the fourth Asian nation to host the championship twice.

India achieved its best-ever performance at the 2025 Asian Youth Games held in Manama, Bahrain, with a total of 48 medals- 13 gold, 18 silver, and 17 bronze. This surpassed India’s previous tallies from 2009 and 2013 editions. 222 Indian athletes participated in the event. The girls’ kabaddi team won India’s first gold medal by defeating Iran. Priteesmita Bhoi set a world youth record in the 44kg clean and jerk to win India’s first individual gold in weightlifting. Khushi earned India’s first medal — a bronze in girls’ kurash, and Ranjana Yadav won silver in the 5000m race walk. The overall performance also served as a qualifier for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal, marking a historic milestone for Indian youth sports.

Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium will host the first-ever National Indoor Athletics Championships in January 2026. The event is part of the 2026 domestic calendar of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), which includes around 40 competitions. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) plans to introduce indoor events such as pole vault (men and women) and heptathlon (men). The men’s indoor heptathlon includes seven events—60m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000m—spread over two days. AFI is also bidding for the 2028 Asian Indoor Championships.

Janvi Jindal, 18, from Chandigarh has become the first Indian female to hold 11 Guinness World Records in freestyle skating. She recently added six new records in November, including the most 360-degree rotations on inline skates in 30 seconds and one minute, and most one-wheeled 360-degree spins. Janvi earlier earned five Guinness titles in July 2025. She is now India’s second-highest Guinness record holder, after Sachin Tendulkar (19 records). Janvi is self-trained and also holds 21 total records, including India Book, Asia Book and Worldwide Book records. Chandigarh University honoured her with a ₹11,000 award and sports scholarship.

Uzbek star Javokhir Sindarov was crowned 2025 FIDE Chess World Cup Champion, becoming the youngest FIDE World Cup Champion. The tournament in Goa started on 1 November 2025 with 206 players and ended with Sindarov vs Chinese Number 1 Wei Yi. After two classical draws, the final went into tiebreaks, showcasing their rapid and blitz skills. Andrey Esipenko secured third place and qualification to the FIDE Candidates Tournament with a 2–0 victory over Nodirbek Yakubboev.

Rajasthan United Football Club (FC) won the 41st All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2025 at Paljor Stadium. They defeated Services Football Team (FT) 1-0 in the final, with Joseph Lalvenhima scoring the only goal. Joseph Lalvenhima was awarded Man of the Match, while Naoba Meitei of Rajasthan United was Man of the Tournament Rajasthan United received Rs 3 lakh, trophy, and medals; runners-up got Rs 2 lakh, trophy, and medals.

Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha from Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh became the youngest chess player in history to earn an official FIDE rating at 3 years, 7 months, and 20 days. He broke the previous record held by Anish Sarkar of Kolkata, who achieved it at 3 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Kushwaha is currently enrolled in nursery school and holds a rapid rating of 1,572. To earn a FIDE rating, a player must defeat at least one international opponent; Kushwaha defeated three international players in events across Madhya Pradesh and India.
