Recently, Indian athlete Seema made history at the 2025 FISU World University Games held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. She became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the 5000m final event at these championships. Seema won the silver medal with a season-best time of 15:35.86, her second-fastest time ever. India finished 20th in the overall medal standings at the games. The country secured 12 medals in total – 2 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze. The event marked a strong performance by Indian athletes on a global university platform.

On July 27, 2025, England won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 title by defeating Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in extra time. Chloe Kelly scored the winning penalty, repeating her 2022 heroics, and ensured England’s second consecutive European title. England coach Sarina Wiegman won her third UEFA Women’s Euro title, previously with Netherlands (2017) and England (2022). UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 was hosted by Switzerland. The 2025 UEFA Women’s Championship (UEFA Women’s Euro 2025) was the 14th edition of the tournament. It is a major football event organised every four years by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

World No.1 Grandmaster (GM) Magnus Carlsen (Team Liquid) won the inaugural Chess Esports World Cup 2025. He defeated GM Alireza Firouzja (Team Falcons) by winning both sets 3-1 in a best-of-three final. Carlsen lost only one game, in the first round of the second set. He earned a prize of US$ 250,000 and 1000 points for Team Liquid. GM Hikaru Nakamura (Team Falcons) beat GM Arjun Erigaisi (Gen.G Esports) 3.5-2.5 to secure third place. The Chess Esports World Cup 2025 was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Malta will host the 8th Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in late 2027. Around 1,150 athletes aged 14-18 from 74 nations and territories will take part. The event will include eight sports: athletics, para athletics, netball, squash, swimming, para swimming, triathlon, and weightlifting. Sailing and water polo will debut in Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) 2027. Para swimming will feature for the first time, making it the largest Para sport program in Commonwealth Youth Games history. Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and North Africa.

Annu Rani of India won gold in women’s javelin throw at the International Wiesław Maniak Memorial, Poland with a season-best 62.59m. The 32-year-old Asian Games champion opened with 60.96m, secured the win early, and improved in her second attempt. Eda Tugsuz of Turkey won silver with 58.36m, and Lianna Davidson of Australia took bronze with 58.24m. Annu’s throw places her among the top 15 women’s javelin throwers globally this season. She is aiming for the 64m qualification mark for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next month.

Recently, Ramesh Budhial became the first Indian to win a medal in the Asian Surfing Championships, clinching bronze in the Open Men’s category in Chennai with 12.60 points. Gold in this category went to Korea’s Kanoa Heejae (15.17 points) and silver to Indonesia’s Pajar Ariyana (14.57 points). In the Open Women’s category, Japan’s Anri Matsuno won gold (14.90), Sumomo Sato silver (13.70), and Thailand’s Isabel Higgs bronze (11.76).

The Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship 2025 was held for the first time in Bihar at Rajgir Sports Complex. India won the bronze medal in the women’s category by beating Uzbekistan. China won gold in the women’s category, defeating Hong Kong. Hong Kong won gold in the men’s category by beating Sri Lanka. Malaysia secured men’s bronze by beating China. Four Bihar players – Gudia Kumari, Anshu Kumari, Alpana Kumari, and Aarti Kumari – were in India’s squad. The mascot was ‘Ashoka’, a rabbit.

Jharkhand Women’s Hockey Team won the 15th Junior National Women’s Hockey Championship for the second consecutive year by defeating Hockey Haryana 2-1 in the finals. The championship was held in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, from August 1-12, 2025. Sweety Dungdung and Shanti Kimari scored for Jharkhand in the 10th and 12th minutes. Sweety Dungdung was the highest goal scorer with 5 goals in the tournament. Jharkhand has won the Junior National title in 2018, 2019, 2024, and 2025. In 2025, Jharkhand won National Championships in Senior, Junior, and Sub-junior categories.

India’s Namrata Batra made history by winning a silver medal in the women’s 52 kg Wushu final at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. The 24-year-old, a four-time national champion and 2024 Asian Championships silver medallist, lost 2-0 to China’s Mengyue Chen in the final. This was India’s first-ever medal in Wushu at the World Games. It was also India’s second medal at the 2025 edition after Rishabh Yadav’s bronze in men’s compound archery.
