More than 500 humanoid robots from 16 countries, including Japan, took part in the World Humanoid Robot Games 2025 in Beijing, China. A robot completed the 100-meter sprint in 21.5 seconds, showing remarkable speed. Robots also showed agility in kickboxing by regaining balance after hits. India’s Girish Gupta won gold in the 10m air pistol men youth event at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. The 17-year-old scored 241.3 in the final, surpassing compatriot Dev Pratap, 14 years old, who shot 238.6 to win silver. India ended Day One with two gold and three silver medals. Kapil Bainsla from Palwal, Haryana, won gold in the junior men’s air pistol with a score of 243.0. Uzbekistan’s Ilkhombek Obidjonov secured silver, while Jonathan Gavin Antony of India won bronze with 220.7. Kapil, Jonathan, and Vijay Tomar together won team silver with 1723 points, while Korea took gold and Kazakhstan bronze.

Indian wrestler Tapasya won India’s first gold medal at the U20 World Wrestling Championships 2025 in Bulgaria. She defeated Norway’s Felicitas Domajeva 5-2 in the women’s 57kg category final. Tapasya previously beat Dolzhon Tsyngueva (6-0), Romaissa El Kharroubi (France), and Sowaka Uchida (Japan, 4-3). In women’s 68kg category, Srishti won silver, losing 0-7 to Japan’s Ray Hoshino. Priya Malik and Reena reached finals in 76kg and 55kg categories, defeating Serbia’s Evelin Ujhelji 10-0 and Romania’s Voiculescu Alexandra 11-1. In men’s 57kg category, Sumit Malik won silver, losing 5-8 to Russia’s Magomed Odzamirov. India has won three medals so far: one gold and two silver at U20 World Wrestling Championships 2025.

Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a Gold medal at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad. She marked a triumphant return to competitive action after previous international events. Chanu lifted a total of 193 kilograms to set new Commonwealth Championship records in snatch, clean and jerk, and total. She lifted 84 kilograms in snatch and 109 kilograms in clean and jerk, both setting new records. She finished first on the women’s 48-kilogram podium. The victory secured her direct qualification for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

New Delhi will host the Badminton World Championships in August 2026. Announcement made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Championships in Paris. The championships return to India after 17 years and to Asia after four years. The event was last held in India in Hyderabad, 2009. India has a strong medal history at the Championships. PV Sindhu is India’s most successful player with five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze. Other Indian medalists include Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, H S Prannoy, Prakash Padukone, Jwala Gutta, and Ashwini Ponappa.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the mascot and logo for the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship. The event will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from September 28 to October 11, 2025. The mascot is named ‘Jalveer,’ symbolizing water sports and aquatic spirit. The championship will serve as a qualification event for the 2026 Asian Games. The championship is a historic milestone for Indian aquatics and a chance for athletes to compete with Asia’s best.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka won the US Open Tennis Women’s Singles title, beating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6. Sabalenka successfully defended her crown and claimed her fourth Grand Slam title. Spanish-Argentine duo Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the Men’s Doubles title. They defeated British pair Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Minakshi Hooda (48 kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (57 kg) won India’s first-ever gold medals at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. Jaismine defeated Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland 4-1, while Minakshi beat three-time world champion Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan 4-1. Nupur Sheoran claimed silver (80+ kg) and Pooja Rani bronze (80 kg). This became India’s best-ever performance at a Women’s World Championships held outside the country.

Recently, Indian skater Anandkumar Velkumar won India’s first-ever gold medal at the Speed Skating World Championships 2025 in China. He won the senior men’s 1,000m sprint with a time of 1:24.924. Earlier, he secured bronze in the 500m sprint (43.072s), marking India’s first senior world championship medal at the same event. Junior skater Krish Sharma also won gold in the 1,000m sprint category. The championship began on September 13, 2025, in China, and will continue until September 21, 2025.

Vaishali Rameshbabu won the FIDE Grand Swiss Chess tournament for the second time in a row in Uzbekistan. She secured victory with a final-round draw against former Women’s World Champion Tan Zhongyi. The 24-year-old Indian Grandmaster finished with 8 points from 11 rounds. With this win, she gained direct entry into the 2026 Candidates Tournament. Vaishali became the third Indian woman to qualify for the 2026 Candidates, after Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh. In the previous edition, India had swept both men’s and women’s titles, with Vidit Gujrathi winning the men’s event.
