India shines at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship 2025 by winning 87 medals, including 83 gold, three silver, and one bronze. India topped the medal table, followed by Japan in second place and Mongolia in third place. The 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship 2025 was held at the KD Jadhav Arena, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi, from April 25 to 27, 2025. The first Asian Yogasana Sport Championship was held in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2022. The event was organised by Yogasan Bharat with support from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India.

India’s Anahat Singh will compete in the upcoming World Squash Championships 2024-2025. The World Squash Championships 2024-2025 started in Chicago, United States of America, from 9 May. The 2025 edition of the World Squash Championship runs from May 9 to 17. Anahat is only 17 years old and is emerging as one of India’s top squash players. She won two bronze medals at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games in the People’s Republic of China.

The Indian archery team performed excellently at the Archery World Cup 2025 Stage-2 held in Shanghai, China, from 6 to 11 May 2025. India won a total of seven medals, including two gold, one silver, and four bronze. Madhura Dhamangaonkar earned a gold medal in the women’s individual compound event. Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Rishabh Yadav secured a gold in the men’s team compound event. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, and Chikitha Taniparthi won a silver in the women’s team compound event. Deepika Kumari claimed a bronze medal in the women’s individual recurve. Parth Salunkhe earned a bronze in the men’s individual recurve. Abhishek Verma and Madhura Dhamangaonkar bagged a bronze in the mixed team compound. Rishabh Yadav took a bronze in the men’s individual compound. The third stage will be held in Antalya, Turkiye, from 3 to 8 June 2025.

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa won the Superbet Chess Classic held in Bucharest, Romania. He secured the title after a close tiebreak round against Alireza Firouzja and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. All three players had 5.5 points in nine rounds, which led to a three-way playoff. The first two tiebreak games ended in draws—first between Praggnanandhaa and Firouzja, then between Vachier-Lagrave and Firouzja. Praggnanandhaa won the third and final game against Vachier-Lagrave to claim the title. World Champion D Gukesh finished ninth with 4 points, drawing his last match with Fabiano Caruana. The next event of the Grand Chess Tour, the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz, will begin in Croatia on July 1.

India won the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-19 Championship by defeating Bangladesh 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout. The final match was held on May 18, 2025, at Golden Jubilee Stadium, Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh. India showed great composure and converted penalties to win their second SAFF U-19 title, the first being in 2023. This win shows India’s growing strength in youth football in South Asia.

India topped the medal table at the first Junior International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 held in Suhl, Germany. India won 3 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals, finishing ahead of the People’s Republic of China. The Suhl meet started on May 19 and was the first Junior ISSF World Cup of 2025. A total of 638 athletes from 59 countries participated in the event. The next Junior ISSF World Cup will be held in New Delhi from September 24 to October 2, 2025.

The 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025 takes place in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to 31. More than 60 Indian athletes are competing across 30 medal events – 15 for men, 14 for women, and one mixed team event. The championship features participation from more than 2000 athletes representing 43 nations. Servin Sebastian secured India’s first medal at Gumi by winning bronze in the men’s 20km race walk event on the opening day.

The 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships will be held in Ahmedabad from April 1 to 10. India was awarded hosting rights last year by the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) during its annual Congress. This will be the first Asian Championship using the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) revised weight categories. The event was originally planned in Gandhinagar but shifted to Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad will also host the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in August.
